Ashley yawned. Office work was taking too long. Ashley glanced at the office clock. Three in the afternoon. She still has three hours before she gets out of work. It wasn't as if she hated her job, it's just that it wasn't that fulfilling anymore. Ashley sighed. I have to have more money for Brooklyn. Ashley sighed once again; her back was aching.
The office was quiet as if she was in isolation. Nobody talked; everyone was focused on their work. It'll be a plus point for the manager. Ashley knew this from the bottom of her heart.
It was cold. The air conditioner was below-average temperature. At least it isn't hot. She better enjoys this cold moment before she goes home to her burning apartment.
Ashley's dimples showed as her smile reached her eyes. She can't wait to see her girlfriend for four years. They hadn't seen each other since her girlfriend's last flight. What a way to travel? Ashley wished she would have also worked while traveling from one place to another.
How great is a free flight from Mayhnila City to Los Gelos City? Working in Mahatik City may be great and all, but let's be honest, no one here is even rich unless you're an executive or a director. After all, being a flight attendant must have been better than being stuck inside the office all day.
Ashley kept glancing on her cellphone, hoping a text from her dear girlfriend would arrive, to the point that she was caught by her superior.
"Ms. Ashley Kay, are you feeling well? My, you're not always like this, do tell me if you are not feeling well, alright?" Mr. Frederick Gazon said worry filled his eyes.
Ashley sighed. She had been the employee of the month and the year, she shouldn't be worrying her boss after all these times. However, Ashley felt her eyes unable to leave the clock. So much for being a diligent employee.
Everyone around her was busy typing away on their keyboard as if beating her was a competition. After two consecutive years of being the best employee, she felt that it wasn't as rewarding as a promotion. She wished she would get promoted in a few months — if only it was that easy.
When the clock struck five o'clock, Ashley beamed as she got up from her desk and swung her handbag on her shoulder ready to leave while everyone else decided to stay for a few minutes.
Ashley got inside the bus humming happily, excited to see her girlfriend again after a month.
Ashley hummed happily as she opened the door only to feel the cold floor. Her smile turned to a frown. She's supposed to be back by now. Ashley pouted.
Brooklyn was nowhere to be found. She was supposed to be home by now. Brooklyn had told her that she would arrive earlier than planned when they talked to each other on the phone yesterday.
Ashley lazily dragged her feet along the cold floor. The apartment felt cold. It wasn't that spacious, but she felt a bit lonely. She sighed after deciding to wait for her dearest Brooklyn.
Hours had passed and Ashley slowly found herself cozying on the couch as she started to be enveloped by darkness. Her head was empty and her heart aching. It's as if there was something bad that was going to happen.
Ashley grunted as she fought her body to turn off the alarm on her phone. It was driving her crazy. Why did she even make it that loud anyway? Ashley mentally slapped herself when she saw that today was a Saturday.
Ashley bit her lip and felt droplets of tears forming at the corner of her eyes. Why isn't she back yet? Ashley dialed her lover's number. The phone rang, yet nobody answered. Her flight must have been delayed.
After her shower, Ashley stepped out of her apartment. They lived on the outskirts of the city, far from the building where she worked. It has become hard to rent a condominium in the city, much less have a house in the finest city, Tagig City.
With Brooklyn's spending habits, Ashley had been experiencing headaches whenever Brooklyn's back. Nonetheless, she still loves that spoiled lover of hers.
Ashley waited for the bus to arrive. She has to restock enough food for Brooklyn. She'll be here for a few days before another flight again the following month.
The bus was crowded. There were different kinds of people inside. The typical aesthetic youth, haggard parents with their children, and dead-looking adults.
It's funny how the world suddenly looked grey the moment you become an adult. Ashley looked at the children with shiny eyes. Careful, your eyes might not sparkle anymore when you're my age.
Ashley felt she was beginning to be sentimental again. Why wouldn't she? She hadn't heard from Brooklyn. Inside her heart, it aches as if it was being crushed.
Her thoughts were disrupted when she felt her armpits beginning to sweat. She sighed. She didn't even have a car. Brooklyn's going to complain again.
Ashley fought her way through the bargaining aunties. Buying vegetables during the sales was tougher than acing an exam. She could feel chills down her spine whenever she thought of fighting with the older and more experienced women. Ashley looked at her hand. A smile emerged from the corner of her lips. She was able to secure some of Brooklyn's favorite vegetables. They had been together for four years now. Ashley smiled proudly.
As Ashely was walking on her way home, she smelled a faint scent of Pepperoni Pizza. Ashley bit her lip as she gripped her purse. This is for Brooklyn. She sighed and opened the door to order a box of pizza.
Ashley's heart was conflicted. It will be hard to spoil Brooklyn with what's left of her salary, but the smile of her dearest would always warm her heart again. This is worth it.
When Ashely opened the door, her face beamed, "Brook! Honey, here's your favorite Pepperoni Pizza from Pizza Hits!"
Brooklyn smiled at her before harsh words came out of her mouth, "Sorry, Ash. My flight got delayed. I have to go now. I promised to attend lunch with my co-workers," Brooklyn gave Ashley a light peck on the lips before shutting the door.
Ashley could feel Brooklyn's warm lips. Her heart felt uneasy — it felt too warm. She bit her lip. Brooklyn was wearing a different kind of perfume, yet she knew that preferred her previous fragrance more. Ashley's heart is more complicated than ever before. I'm being too possessive.
Ashley looked at the pizza with regret as she tore a slice and began finishing it one by one. The pizza felt cold against her tongue. I don't even like pizza.
The apartment was silent as Ashley's increasing loneliness. She convinced herself that Brooklyn was better than two years ago. She wouldn't do that again. We've been together for four years. She wouldn't. Ashley's eyes turned darker.
