Ashley woke up with a headache. She glanced at her phone and there were still no messages from Brooklyn. She noticed that she was the only one inside the room. After freshening up, Ashley walked down to the main living room.
Zahra was cooking breakfast while Jewel was hovering beside Zahra, smiling as they chatted. The atmosphere seemed ambiguous and it made Ashley raise her eyebrow.
Ashley decided not to bother them and tried to look for Rain. She finally spotted her dear friend, who was outside smoking. Ashley sighed. She can't believe her friend was smoking again. Seemed like Rain was stressed again.
Ashley walked towards Rain. The moment she inhaled the smoke, she began to cough, causing Rain to turn around and put off her cigarette.
"Why are you smoking again?" Ashley asked, her eyes worried.
"It's just I'm stressed again," Rain confessed. She creased her forehead, "Company stuff. I better go after breakfast."
"Our general manager's busy. I won't take much of your time," Ashley chuckled as they headed towards the kitchen.
Zahra placed stirred vegetables and eggs on the table as she began to serve them each a bowl of congee, "Breakfast is here."
"Zahra, why are you so loud first thing in the morning?" Jewel complained.
Zahra seemed to have lagged, only to blush later on and completely shut up.
Rain and Ashley looked at each other rather than at Jewel, who was innocently and happily eating her breakfast.
"Did you just see that?" Rain blinked twice at Alice. It's as if they could understand each other through telepathy.
"No idea, but Zahra just blushed!!" Ashley pointed towards her cheeks.
They both shrugged, deciding not to think too much out of it.
"This is so delicious!" Rain shouted as she kept stuffing those fluffy fried scrambled eggs inside her mouth, "Too bad I need to leave right away. I would have savoured this."
After swallowing, Rain stood up immediately as well as Ashley.
"Sorry, I have to go and break up with Brooklyn. I'll see you later," Ashley said, grabbing her handbag and heading towards the gate.
Ashley had her head high as she walked toward the bus stop. She felt as if her heart was being stepped on. Her body felt numb as if even death wouldn't hurt. Ashley shook those thoughts away. How did she end up this way?
She was always there for Brooklyn, going as far as flying to another country when she heard the news that Brooklyn had sprained her ankle. She gave her an apartment to feel at home when Brooklyn had a dispute with her parents. Surprised her now and then.
What had she done wrong? Had loving Brooklyn so much broken her?
Ashley's eyes stared at the apartment door, hot tears started flowing down.
After this, she will never feel Brooklyn's embrace again. Her laughs, her hugs, and her touch. After this, she won't ever get hurt again.
Ashley felt empty for the first time, and her heart felt cold as if she were in Antarctica. From now on, Ashley won't get hurt ever. She decided to build a wall around her hard.
Clenching her fits, Ashley forced herself to open the door.
Her cold face was met with a charming warm smile of Brooklyn, "Ash, where have you been?"
She asked sweetly as if she had not done anything wrong.
Ashley pursed her lips, "Brook, I love you," she simply said.
Brooklyn felt something was wrong with her girlfriend, and frowned. She walked towards Ashley and wrapped both of her slender arms around Ashely's neck, trying to seductively coax her angry girlfriend.
Ashley felt her heart warm up in an instant, yet the scene where Brooklyn cheated on her flashed in her mind again, reminding her to finish what she came home for.
She gently removed Brooklyn's arm around her neck, "Brooklyn, let's break up."
Brooklyn's eyes shot wide. She had never thought that the girl who was crazy for her would even think of breaking up with her. She tried to speak with her soft alluring voice again, "Ash? I love you, please don't. What happened? Come on. Let's go one a date. Don't be angry anymore."
Ashley bit her lip. No matter how tempting, she just couldn't do it anymore.
"Brooklyn, you cheated on me again, so please, just this once. Please break up with me," Ashley started weeping, her head down, no longer looking at Brooklyn.
Brooklyn removed her arms around Ashley, "Suit yourself."
Brooklyn then went to their room and prepared her luggage as if those five years didn't mean anything to her at all.
Opening the door, Brooklyn glanced at Ashley again, "This is your last chance."
Ashley inhaled deeply, "Just leave."
Brooklyn took out the keys Ashley gave her and left them on the shelf before closing the door.
Ashley choked before laughing at herself. Brooklyn didn't even ask why. So it is so simple for you to leave me.
Honestly, if Brooklyn were to come up with an excuse, she would probably still stay with Brooklyn. It was the same as last time.
Brooklyn didn't even bother to explain.
Ashley was the one who asked who the other man was, whether it was Brooknlyn's cousin. Brooklyn only nodded and told her not to think much about it even when she fully knew that Brooklyn had cheated.
She's finally gone.
