Kelly

I arrived at Alaine's apartment which was really far away from the house, almost out of town. I got out the car and approached the stairs leading up to her apartment. As I was about to knock, the door opened.

"Kelly!" she hugged me tightly, "so glad to see you."

"You too," I put on a coy smile. That was very strange that she just knew I was at the door.

"Come in," she grabbed my wrist and pulled me inside.

I looked around and sat down on one of the couches. Alaine went into her kitchen and came back with a platter of snacks.

"Dig in. I'm sure you're starving," she sat on the couch, placing the platter on the coffee table.

"I'm not that hungry thanks," I smiled, trying to keep my cool.

"You sure?" she questioned.

"Absolutely," I huffed and looked around, "nice place."

"Thanks. Kinda wish it was my actual apartment it looks so much better than my apartment back home ugh," she groaned and grabbed a bottle of wine from the kitchen, "care for a drink?"

"I'm gonna be driving so no thanks," I put up my hands.

"Ah c'mon, one glass won't hurt," she smiled and started pouring.

"We'll see how the night goes," I shrugged.

"I'll crack you eventually," she chuckled and sat down.

"So valedictorian? That's a big deal congratulations," I smiled.

"Yeah I worked my ass off to get that. But enough about me! What's going on with you? We haven't talked in forever. How are you and Cole?" she fluttered.

"Well something almost went down the night we met up, but I guess security was following me and I got busted," I explained, pretending to sound disheartened.

"Oh well that's too bad. Next time try make sure nobody's on your tale you don't want them ruining your fun. Speaking of which, you came here by yourself no bodyguard are gonna busy down my door because I cannot afford to pay for repairs for a place that isn't even mine," she giggled.

"I tried extra hard to make sure I didn't have anyone following me. Just wanted a little girl time away from the craziness," I pouted.

"Well I'm here for you always Kelly. I'm sorry everything that has happened, happened. I know it made you stronger and I'm so glad we could pick up from where we left off as if nothing changed," she smiled and gave me a hug.

"Thanks Alaine," I smiled back at her.

"Listen imma go and get more wine from downstairs," she said getting up, "you sit tight."

"Sure," I said as she left.

I got up and walked around the apartment, observing each detail. My mind started to wonder. Did Alaine know what Cole was doing. Sorry I mean Hugo. My trust was wearing thin. I just felt like my perspective was being slanted.

Suddenly I heard a rattle at the door, assuming that Alaine had come back from getting more wine. The door was opened and someone dressed in black came rushing in. I jumped up from the couch and moved swiftly across the room.

Before I knew it, I was in their clutches and the struggle began. I felt them pushing me in a certain direction, towards the balcony. The glass door was wide open. Before I knew it I was leaning over the edge, in a scuffle with the perp. I tried to jab their windpipe with my elbow but this person definitely had strength.

With one mighty shove, I fell over the edge but luckily I caught onto the end of the balcony in time. The perp was deliberately stepping on my hands, trying to make me let go. I then began to move sideways on the balcony and hurled my body towards a part of the building's wall that I could climb. I moved towards my right with my hands and eventually got to the drain of the building. I carefully slid down and tied my hair up.

I ran to the back of the building, and busting one of the locks of the doors with a hairpin, I got in. Luckily, I found a laundry bin near by and dug around looking for a hoodie jacket. I put it on, zipped it up, then looked for some baggy pants I could wear over my original outfit. I put them and left the building.

I had to think. I knew taking my car wouldn't be good because I just knew it had be IDed by whoever was after me.

I decided to ditch my car and join the general crowd. I was walking on the street, trying to figure out my next move when I was finally hit by a miracle.

Within an eyeshot I saw Derek walking out of a store. He was off the clock. I quickly ran up to him.

"Derek!" I tried to keep my face covered.

"Kelly! What are you doing here without security?" he sounded astoundingly furious.

"No time to explain. Please get me home," I pleaded.

"Sure. Get in," he opened the back door of his personal car and I got in.

"What the hell happened to you?" he asked angrily but then remembered who he was talking to, "excuse my tone ma'am."

"We spoke about that ma'am thing Derek," I taunted him, "I was at a friend's place and she left to get something and someone broke into her room and tried to kill me."

"Kelly that's awful. You know how serious this is? We have to tell your father," he stated.

"Wait Derek. I can't yet. I think I know what this is about anyways," I trailed off.

"You can't just expect me to stand by and watch this happen," he shook his head, "we have to inform the President."

"Derek please. I know how to handle this. Please just trust me," I looked at him through the rear view mirror with puppy eyes.

"Fine," he gulped.
