Kelly

I stared at myself in the mirror. I had the prep team doing my hair and makeup, with my mom standing by my side.

"I can't believe this day has has come. Your father and I are so proud of you," she smiled, her eyes tearing up.

"Thanks mom," I smiled, "and don't cry right now because you'll ruin your makeup."

"You're right. Sorry," she closed her eyes with a small chuckle.

"We're done Miss Richardson," one of the hairstylists said.

"Thank you ladies," I got up and adjusted my graduation gown.

"You look so beautiful," my mom cooed.

"Thank you mom," I blushed, "let's go."

The room cleared out and we exited. We met with my dad outside and were escorted to the car that is taking us to my campus.

The day has finally arrived. All the hard work I put into my criminal psychology degree had finally paid off. Not to mention juggling it with spy training, Grayson's death and overall, being the president's daughter. I finally felt like the difficulty of my life had been dissolved. I felt like I could move forward.

"We're so proud of you sweetheart," my dad smiled.

"Thank you Dad," I smiled back.

"Wow this sure does make me feel old. It feels like just yesterday I was changing your extremely poopy diapers and now here you are, graduating college. Wow!" my mom chuckled.

"You seriously had to say extremely poopy huh?" I rolled my eyes with a small laugh.

"We fed you very well, I had to mention it. I swear sometimes it was as big as this graduation cap you're wearing," she gave me a look.

"Alright Delilah that's enough you're embarrassing our little angel," my dad pinched my cheeks.

"You guys," I scrunched up my face and laughed.

Soon enough, we were at our destination. We got out the car, heavily guarded of course, and entered the campus. We headed to the induction hall and my parents were seated in a special area, away from everyone else's parents. Luckily, with much begging and reasoning, I was allowed to sit amongst my peers.

As I waited for the ceremony to start, I looked around the hall and observed everyone. I saw the bodyguards at the front trying to fend off paparazzi and news reporters. I noticed people collecting in groups and smiling and laughing with each other. One difficult thing about being who I was, was the forced isolation from the people I was in class with. I then started thinking about Grayson. I just couldn't believe that he would do this, and especially for such a sad reason. It made no sense, he could've approached us about it. My heart was breaking over this but I had to put my emotions on the side otherwise I would jeopardise the mission.

As my mind boggled, the ceremony began. We had the dean address our class and the whole time I had a ringing in my ear. I thought that maybe I was just feeling a bit under the weather but it started to worsen. At some stage, the graduation music started to play and I felt the ringing had gotten worse. Just as I was about to stand up, I heard my name being called.

A roar of applause followed as I approached the stage. I went up the steps with caution as I felt light-headed. I shook the dean's hand and as he handed my degree to me, I felt the paper slip out of my hands.

I watched as the dean fell to the ground. I looked up and the ringing got so loud that everyone started to hear it. Suddenly the roof of the hall partially collapsed and people began running towards the exit. As some escaped, the windows on the sides of the building shattered and people covered themselves as the glass fell.

Lines attached themselves to the walls and three bodies zipped in. They fell to the ground and they aimed at my father, my mother and me.

"Mom! Dad!" I yelled as the shots went off, luckily my parents were blocked by security.

I flipped backwards as the bullet tried to get me, but missed. I jumped off the stage and ran towards the security guard wall formed around my parents.

"Get in here Kelly!" my dad yelled.

"I got this. Get them outta here!" I yelled at the security guards.

Before I received a response, I got tackled. I was on the ground being restricted by the shoulders by someone wearing a defence helmet. I tucked my legs in and pushed them forward causing the person to fall back.

We were engaged into hand to hand combat. I tried with every part in me to block every punch coming my way. I lunged forward, trying to go for their neck but they backed away in time. They did a swiping kick and down I fell. I flipped back up and charged towards them, trying to hit their weak points with punches and chops. Eventually I used my legs to kick  them and I ended up kicking their mask off.

"Grayson," I stopped and huffed for a second.

He continued to fight back. His fist aiming for my core, I dodged him. I ran towards him and jumped up, trying to get my leg around his neck but he blocked me and pushed me back to the ground.

He towered over me and tried to stamp my neck with his feet but I rolled over to my side. I jumped up and ran towards the back of the hall. I began climbing up to the balcony seats of the hall while Grayson tried to grab my ankles but I managed to wriggle out his grip.

I got up to the top and stood on one of the seats looking up at the ceiling, trying to look for an open space to escape. Suddenly I felt my leg being dragged. I tried to twist it but he had it tightly gripped. With all my might, I kicked him in the stomach, causing him to release me. He ran after me and grabbed me from behind but I slipped out his grip and turned back around.

"How could you do this to us? Do you have any idea what kind of mess you're in," I growled as I tried to punch him but he blocked me.

"You don't know why I'm doing this," he responded, bumping my shoulder with his elbow.

"I do know. I was undercover at the embassy. I was Claudette. You didn't have to go to their side Grayson," I ran to the other side of the seats.

"I had to. I had no other choice," he ran towards me and did a swinging kick, causing me to duck.

I ran towards the edge of the balcony. Grayson charged towards me and wrapped his arms around my neck. I tried to put up my arm to slip out his grip but he pressed his body against mine holding me down.

"You promised you'd protect me," I whimpered, gasping for air.

"We can't all keep our promises," his eyes turned red, as if he was releasing his inner rage.

With my dying strength, I kneed him in the groin, causing him to let go. I kicked him in the throat and he lost his balance, tipping over the balcony and falling with a scream and then a painful, roaring thud.

I looked down in panic, tears swelling in my eyes as I watched his body drain of life.

I completed my mission, but at what cost?
