You ran.
You ran up the stairs from the laboratory, towards your room. You just wanted to get away from Dottore and his damn experiments.
To say that you were heartbroken would be an understatement.
Something deep inside of you was whispering to you 'you should have expected this to happen. He is a mad scientist that doesn't care about anyone but himself and Tsaritsa's orders.'
At first, you tried to quiet down that little voice, but it started to grow louder and louder.
As you turned the corner and neared your room, at the end of the corridor you noticed a familiar figure. A figure that you wanted to see the least right now.Tsaritsa.
The Archon looked at you with a smile on her face, but upon seeing hot tears spilling from your eyes, her expression was soon filled with worry.
You stopped in your tracks as you did not know where to go or what to do. You can't just dismiss Her Highness like that.
Tsaritsa saw this as a perfect opportunity to make her way towards you.
"- Y/N, is something wrong? Why are you crying?" - asked Her Highness, as she was just a few steps away from you now.
You tried to quiet down your sobs. You had to stay calm.
"- No, everything is fine. It's just that an experiment went wrong and some gas got into my eyes. I was heading to my room to wash my face." - you answered her.
You didn't want to lie, but you also didn't want to tell her about what happened in the first place. She was the one who held high expectations for you. You didn't even know how she'd react upon hearing about Dottore's experiment on you.
To your answer, Tsaritsa only raised a brow.
"- Uh-huh... Okay, then. Let's go to my room." - Tsaritsa spoke as she put her hand on your shoulder and gently pushed you towards the direction of her bedroom.
You wipe your tears as you complied. You really didn't want to follow her right now, but you could not disobey her either.Tsaritsa's room was huge, and the bathroom was even larger. You washed your face in the bathroom, trying to keep up the act. As you left the bathroom, you noticed how Tsaritsa was sitting at the fireplace.
"- Y/N, my dearest, could you join me for a minute?" - she asked.
You nodded, as you sat on the other side of the couch she was sitting on.
Tsaritsa did not like the distance, as she scooted a little bit closer to you.
Suddenly, you heard a knock at the door, as Emma with two cups of tea entered the room. Upon seeing her, you felt somewhat happy. It has been a while since you and the maiden had talked. Emma, on the other hand, upon seeing your teary face got worried sick, but she could not ask what happened. Not in the presence of Her Highness. The maiden carefully settled both of the cups with tea on the coffee table as she retreated to the door.
"- Thank you, Emma. You're free to go." - commanded Tsaritsa.
With a slight bow, the maiden left you two alone in a room.
As Tsaritsa took a cup of tea in her hands, she blew on the hot beverage, hoping to cool it off a little bit.
"- Y/N, I've lived for more than 4000 years and I can see when a person is truly hurting... What happened?" - The Archon asked, as she turned to you.You felt another wave of hot tears approach you. You tried to keep up the calm composure and steady breathing, but your inhales and exhales soon turned shaky.
That seemed to worry Tsaritsa as she put her cup down, sat even closer to you, and hugged you.
"- Hey, hey, what's wrong? Who hurt my dearest little assistant?" - Tsaritsa tried to soothe you.
"- I'm just an experiment..." - you whispered. You told Her Highness everything that has happened. You had no other choice. It was better to tell her the truth than to hide it. It would only hurt you more.
Tsaritsa listened to your explanation, as she stayed quiet the whole time. She kept rubbing comfortable circles into your back as you cried your eyes out.
As you finished telling her everything that had happened and you calmed down a little bit, Tsaritsa stood up.
She walked to the window and looked through it.
"- Y/N..." - she spoke slowly.
You could only expect the worst. You thought that now she would scold you and tell you that you are just an assistant and you should bear with everything The Harbingers throw at you.
Her Highness ran her hand on the glass of the window, as she spoke again with an exhale.
"- Do you know why I chose you, as the assistant for all The Harbingers?" - Tsaritsa asked you.
You shook your head. You had not even the slightest idea how you've gotten in this situation. Tsaritsa was the one who helped you escape your past life. What were the chances of that happening in the first place? Nearly zero. But it happened.
"- You know, I've been watching you, way before I decided to help you escape. I heard lots of things about you. Since you come from quite a noble family, it was only logical for everyone to be talking about you. But what caught my eye was the fact that upon speaking about you, everyone would always mention how welcoming, friendly and caring you are..." - Her Highness spoke in a quiet voice, as she made her way to the other window.
"- I chose you because I wanted to see if you were truly the perfect person everyone was talking about... And you are. With all your emotions, with everything you've done and everything you will do... And... Your love is the purest thing in this world. The ones who don't appreciate it, use it, or experiment with it... Do not deserve those crystal tears spilling from your eyes." - Her Highness spoke her last sentences looking directly at you.
At her words of comfort, you only teared up even more, which made Tsaritsa give you a motherly smile.
Her Highness made her way towards you, as she hugged you once again.
"- You don't have to return to him. I'll keep you as my assistant for now." - Tsaritsa whispered.
You choked back a sob.
"- Thank you... Thank you so much..."The next three days you helped Tsaritsa with her paperwork and meetings.
Most of the time, you just needed to find certain documents that Tsaritsa would ask for. It wasn't hard, but it was also not the most fun job in the world. Of course, Her Highness would strike a conversation with you from time to time, which was more than comforting.
There were also some meetings you had to attend with Tsaritsa. Now those were the boring parts of your job. All the time you would just have to sit next to Her Highness, keeping your cool, sitting straight, and not uttering a word. The meetings would go from one to three hours and they were more than exhausting. It was the fourth day of being Tsaritsa's assistant.
As both of you were working in her office, Her Highness sighed heavily as she stood up.
"- We need to gather all The Harbingers for a meeting." - she spoke.
Your heart skipped a beat at the thought of seeing Dottore again. Tsaritsa noticed your expression change. To that, she only gave you a comforting smile.
"- Don't worry. Everything is going to be okay."Only an hour later, you were standing in the meeting room, next to Tsaritsa, as you watched all The Harbingers gather for a meeting. The whole situation reminded you of your first time here, which made you smile. You've come so far...
As almost everyone gathered, you noticed that one chair was still empty.
Dottore was still not present.
You swallowed a lump in your throat.
He is probably just busy with another one of his experiments.
Yeah. Just that.Five minutes later, the door opened again and The Third Harbinger walked in, except he was...
Different, to say the least.
The eye bags under his eyes were evident, as his posture was more slumped up. His hairstyle was messy, as it only added the details of exhaustion to his whole image.
His eyes were half-lidded, as they didn't have their usual sparkle.
The Harbinger looked... horrible.Upon seeing you next to Tsaritsa, The Harbinger's eyes widened. It was like he had seen a ghost. He stared right at you.
Meanwhile, you tensed up and tried looking everywhere but the direction of the man. You felt your eyes get glossy, but you did not let the tears spill again. You kept a cold posture, as you waited for the meeting to begin. The meeting went just like always, with Tsaritsa doing most of the talking. The whole time you were staring in front of you - into the blank space, lost in your thoughts. You wanted to isolate yourself from the outside world, it was too much for you to handle.
When the meeting was over, everyone started to stand up. You looked at Tsaritsa, as she was watching the Third Harbinger, which was still sitting at the table.
It was more than weird.
Usually, Dottore would be the first one to leave as he's claim to have better things to do.
Her Highness coughed into her hand.
That seemed to get The Harbinger out of his trance, except he looked... weaker.
Now all The Harbingers were looking at Dottore, with confusion all over their faces.
Dottore slowly stood up, but soon he stumbled. He had to grab onto the chair, almost knocking it down.
Tartaglia hurried to help the man stand up straight, and he was just in time.Dottore fainted.
