"Cal anak, your mom's looking for you. It's getting late."

Nilingon ko si Dad na kararating lang sa ilog. I was sitting here in this big rock while staring blankly in my reflection on the water. I looked at him.

"Just an hour more, Dad. Please?" I pleaded. "He said he'll come."

He just sighed before nodded. I watched him turned his back and left. I looked around the place. This is our playground.

I looked up to see the sun trying to know the time using the sundial but dad was right. It's getting dark maybe around 5:30 or 6:00 pm. While thinking about the time, I heard a footsteps. Kinabahan ako at mabilis na nilingon ang yabag.

"Kuya!" Napatayo ako nang makita ko siya.

"Calys!" He angrily shouted when I almost lost my balance. "Careful!"

I just laughed how worried he was. I threw myself to him for a hug. "Chill. I thought you'd never come."

He hugged me back, "Sorry for breaking my promise."

I smiled at him so he will not feel guilty. "Wala 'yon kuya. At least you came now."

Naupo kami sa mga bato at sabay na tumingala. Wala nang liwanag ang langit. Mga bituin nalang ang tanaw.

"I wasn't able to came back last week because something happened." I looked at him, "Her parents separated. She was so down and I couldn't get to see her like that."

Mapait akong ngumiti. "I understand."

I really did.

"I'm sorry." Tango lang ang naisagot ko sa dami ng gusto kong sabihin. Ang mahalaga dumating siya.

"When are you planning to work?"

Natahimik ako. Kailan nga ba?

"I told you, you can't be here all your life. Practice your degree."

And then what? I will start to forget this? I'm going to live a life that I never wanted in the first place?

"I want to st—"

"Cal, please? It's not always about this place. You're not getting any younger. The world is so big. Calys, it is for you to conquer."

He didn't even let me finish. What happened with all the promises we made here?

"I know," mahinang sagot ko. "I know that. I'll try next month."

Nakita ko ang ngiti niya. Napangiti ko si Kuya.

"You will do great." I just smiled.

He's my Kuya Dave. He was the first person who believed in me. He was my role model, my protector, my playmate, and my partner.

Years ago, it was our vacation and as the usual we went here. I still remember how we promise ourselves that we're gonna be here forever. I am still holding to that promise, but on the other hand kuya seems to forget it. Sayang.

"Tara na?" Sabay kaming tumayo at naglakad patungo sa bahay namin.

Tahimik lang kaming dalawa. I don't know what happened to us simula nang lumuwas siyang Maynila para magtrabaho.
