There was no need for Anne to take the pregnancy test as by the next morning her period came. Maybe she was late because of the stress at work, at the same of overthinking the fear that could happen because of Brent's mother's knowledge of her presence in his life.
"Anne, could you please ask Tony if he brought all the lists of the models that would walk on the runway and their measurements? If he has it, tell him I need it. Also mentioned to him, to make sure no last-minute changes on it. I don't want to panic on the day of the fashion show because a model cannot do her job because of some accidents." Olivia told her, which stopped her musing and looked at the latter who stands in front of her table.
Anne knew Olivia was under a lot of pressure now. Mrs. Winters had assigned to her the checking of all clothes and lingerie the model would use on the show. As their apprentice, she and Suzan could only be their runner.
"He came?"
"Yes, he is at Mrs. Winters' office. I wanted to ask him, but he was in a hurry."
"No worries, I will go there," Anne answered while touching the screen of her computer to close the file she was reading, the list of the attendees of the fashion show.
Afterward, Anne stood up and walked passing Olivia towards the door.
As usual, the first person who Anne met in the office was Antoinette. She had not seen her since that day that she went down in the showroom. What she hoped was that the secretary would not ask her what happened, like most of her colleagues.
"I had heard that it was Dr. Stuart who had asked you to assist her. What had happened that she left angry?"
So much for hoping, Anne thought. The dreaded question that everyone asked her for two days after that incident still came out of Antoinette's mouth. Instead of showing disappointment on her face, Anne smiled as if it was a normal question.
Anne knew Antoinette was not that too much of gossip. She only couldn't help but be curious. Even Olivia and Suzan asked her too, the next day. Anyway, her answer would always be the same as what she had said to the manager.
"Aren't you the cousin of Mr. Jefferson's assistant?"
That was the answer she got from Antoinette to what she said. Another question. Anne forgot about that lie already. Instead of voicing out her answer, she just shrugged her shoulder. Besides, it was better to keep her mouth shut than say something she has no plan to utter.
Anne was going to say her purpose of the visit, to change conversation, but then stopped as Antoinette continued to ask her. "Do you know if Mr. Jefferson had a child?"
"A child?" The question caught Anne off guard.
"That surprised you, right?" In which Faye nodded.
The unexpectedness of the question made her stupefied. She didn't know what was happening to her. Suddenly, her legs weakened. It made her hold on to the top rail of the chair for support.
It was the door opening and Tony, the casting agent, together with Barbara, diverted Antoinette's attention from her.
"Marie, how are you lately?" Tony asked, which made her look in the latter's direction.
"I'm good, thanks. How about you, Tony?" Anne answered after she composed herself. She then looked at Barbara and greeted her, too.
"So, do you want to be a part of my catwalks girls again for this event?"
"Thank you Tony... but I..."
"I knew it. You would refuse again. You could work here and do some part-time modeling. I wouldn't mind being your agent." Tony said and then walked towards her and murmured, "I would make sure that all your schedule would not be a conflict with your work."
