"What are you doing here, Mr. Jefferson?" Anne asked as soon as she saw Brent on her doorstep, but he didn't answer but slightly pushed her aside to enter the house, to her surprise.

Then he turned around to looked at her " Why did you do this to me, Marie?"

It was then Anne smelled alcohol on his breath," Mr. Jefferson, I don't know what you are accusing me again, but it is late already." She told him calmly while still holding the doorknob. "Let us talk when you are sober." She added while opening the door to let him know he needs to leave now.

"I did drink a few, but I am still sober." He told her while walking towards her. She widened the door to let him go out, but to her surprise, he shut it while pulling her on her waist.

"Mr. Jefferson, what are you doing, " She protested while wriggling to break free from his hold. It seemed that the more she tried to escape, the tighter his grip on her. Than to tire herself from escaping, she put her arms in between their body to put space between them.

"Do you have a child Marie?" his direct question left her stunned, and she just looked at him with wide eyes. Suddenly she got a grip of herself. "What are you talking about?"

"Don't lie to me. I know already about your child. Is it because of that child you left your modeling career." He told her while releasing his hold on her. Then he took a step backward and turned his back on her. Anne saw how Brent clench his fist as if trying to control his rage.

"Do you love that man so much that you gave up everything you dream of in which you have never done to us?" he asked after a few seconds as he turned around and walked back towards her again. " Did you ever loved me, Anne?" Brent asked with a wincing, pained expression.

To see the anguish in his face as he says those words, made Anne felt the squeezing pain in her heart. She wished to touch him at least to let him know he is not alone, but of course, she didn't do that. Instead, she said, " Now you know I have a child from another man, forget we ever met before. How many times do I have to remind you?"

"Do you think I don't want to do that?" He asked more to himself than to her as he looked down on the floor. Then in a split second, he raised his eyes on her, "now, I've finally acknowledged the truth that you never love me, this pain in my heart consumed me." he told her while clutching his chest.

"Mr. Jefferson, you are just drunk. Tomorrow you will not even remember what you had said.

"I said I am not drunk. I know what I am talking about." Brent told as if irritated by her insisting on his intoxicated state.

"Okay, as you said, but I insist we talked about it on another day. " This time, Anne told him in her most authoritative voice while leaving her position in the door to walk past him, but his hand grasp her and looked at her fingers.

" You don't even wear his ring. Where is he now?"

"Does it matter if where he is to you? It is our life and decision." She told him while removing her hand from his and then pointed the door again. " Mr. Jefferson, please, it is late already, and you know I have a child who happens to be sleeping now. You can see the door. Help yourself in going out."

She then walked back to the kitchen without looking back if Brent left or not. She was already inside the kitchen when she let loose the tears that pooled in her eyes. "I am so sorry. " She uttered because it is wrong of her to hide the truth from them, but what can she do? As a mother, she needs to protect her son.

"It is not yet the right time for both of them to meet, maybe someday." She thought while sitting down on the table. It was then she heard the door open and then closed.
