"I thought you said processed sugar shorted lifespans or something"

"She told you that? Amy"

"Well, today is a day for exceptions." Amy whispered as she opened the box of donuts "Now, you need to be patient with her. She might be a bit difficult."

"She's always a bit difficult." Jules laughed quietly as she heard Leigh's footsteps

"So get ready for a lot of difficult." Amy took a deep breath then moved behind me

"Those don't sound like I'm gonna be difficult steps.. More like... Happy... Or excited" I tapped on Amy's hand and she squinted at me

"There is no way y.... Hey, hey"

"Hi" Leigh excitedly ran down the stairs

"Happy birthday, sweetheart." Amy yelled as Leigh skipped to her like a toddler

"Thank you very much." She pulled her mom into a hug "Do I smell "queenie-a-mans"? "Queens-a-ma"?

"If you can't pronounce it, the calories don't count." Jules laughed then I nudged her "Happy birthday." She held out the gift she made for Leigh

Leigh gasped then quickly took it from her "A coupon book, Fun." She chuckled then started reading from it "I will restart the book club, you tried to get me and Mom to do and actually read the books this time." This is a brilliant gift!
Thank you, Jules. I love this! Thank you."

"Happy birthday." I yelled again because I wanted to save the gift I got her until later

"Thank you so much." She pulled me into a hug "You okay?" She asked when she noticed Amy's look behind me

"Yeah, no, I-I am. I just--I just--I didn't think you'd be doing
quite so well today. That's all."

"I didn't either, but we all make choices, and I am choosing
to have a great birthday. So let's do this thing" Leigh nudged me and did a little dance.. Although it wasn't her excited dance. It was still good to see

"Okay, let's do this, um. I got Lacey to take the evening classes so we can get to Sugarfish before the lines get crazy,
and then, they are screening "The Philadelphia Story" at the Egyptian." Amy spat out a few ideas while she moved her head side to side, Meanwhile i don't think Leigh was listening

"Ah...I think I want a party." Leigh nodded, The expression on her face starting to grow "I do. Tonight. I want a party. Like, a big party."

"Okay, um... Do you want me to call Drew and a few of your friends?" Amy suggested

"No, you don't have to. I can do that, and, um, it's my birthday, so I get to eat six fun things." Leigh playfully pulled the box to her. Referencing the time when she said she only ate one fun thing a week

"Um, five."

"Um, four."

"Um, three

"I'm gonna eat three fun things" Leigh laughed as she picked up the box

"Okay you can have one back birthday girl" I put the one I took back into the box

"Jules, I thank you. Y/n, I thank you, I thank you." She rotated around the room thanking everyone then walked back to the stairs "Y/n are you coming?"

"Oh, Yeah" I ran up the stairs behind her

"Uh, uh, remind your friends it's a sober house." Amy yelled
