I need to focus on the present. Think about Marcellus!

He's alive, thriving with an army at his belt!

'one that Klaus intends to take away from him.'

Okay, what about the baby!

New life, a rebirth for this family, pure hope for the future!

'that as of right now Klaus wants nothing to do with.'

Elijah!

My big brother! Someone to lean on in my darkest hour!

'the one currently lying in a box, daggered, where we can't find him.'

I give up.

This is the curse of immortality, you spend so much time on this planet the present becomes meaningless.

The only thing that brings me solace is the task at hand.

Once Elijah is back Hayley will be safe, Rebekah can leave to forge her own path, Klaus will be even more preoccupied, and I can...

Moving on.

I take deep breaths as I think about our plan, where we will find my big brother, what I'll say to him once he's back with us, what he'll say to me coming back here.

Once it's been enough time and I'm back to normal, as normal as I can get, I make my way to Hayley's room. Gotta break the news.

When I enter I see her staring at her birthmark in the mirror. I assume she didn't hear me come in until....

"Rebekah tells me you're going with them to the party." She turns around to face me.

"Yes, but we'll be back before you notice our departure. Even better with Elijah in toe!" At the mention of Elijah's return, her skepticism turns to slight joy.

"Good, guess that means I'm alone tonight?" She looks a bit upset at the prospect. I can't imagine her cabin fever.

"Sorry about that, maybe I can find someone to keep you company?" I suggest.

"I thought everyone in this town wanted me dead, who could you be thinking of?" She's got a point.

"Didn't you want to be on your own this morning? I thought you'd be buzzing." I quickly change the subject. She's right. Right now, it's safer for her to be alone than with anyone else.

"I didn't want to be babysat, that's different than wanting to be by myself in this giant house." I looked down, not knowing what to say. "Why did you want to go so badly? Sick of being around me?" What the fuck?

I look her directly in the eyes. "Of course not! Don't be stupid, Hayley. Your presence is the only I can stand at the moment, which is why I need to make sure this plan works and my brother doesn't 'Klaus' everything up. Elijah is coming home tonight, I will ensure it."

She nods her head with a smile. "I understand. Good luck!"

I rest a hand on her shoulder. "Much appreciated, but I hopefully won't need it."

Rebekah had dashed off rather quickly, but as promised a plain, dark blue dress was sitting on my bed.

'It's not like I have anything else to wear'

I really hope whatever Klaus is playing at goes off without a hitch, but not knowing what exactly that is I'm not sure if I should.

The dress has sleeves which is such a relief! 'Anything to cover these broad shoulders' Unfortunately it does little to hide my biceps.

I push the thoughts away and avoid eye contact with the mirror as I make my way downstairs to find my brother sitting at a desk.
