1980's

Clay's hands are focused on cutting the piece of chicken tenders but her eyes aren't. She keeps stealing glances on Este. Her purple eye bags, pale lips and the panic on her face is easy enough for anyone to tell that she hasn't been sleeping lately. Her fingers tremble as she tries to cut her steak. She drops the fork and knife before taking a sip from her glass of wine.

"What's fucking you up?" Clay asks, chewing a piece of chicken tender she just cut. Este snaps her eyes to Clay, almost immediately. It was scary. It was only a week ago they had met and Este didn't look like a 'zombie going to be.' She still had that rosiness on her cheeks and those sparkling brown eyes. She gulps down all the wine and calls for the waiter to pour more.

"I think he is doing it. He is acting differently and I know it. I know there is another woman," she finally cuts the steak and eats a piece of it. "Are you sure?" Clay asks. Este nods.

"Damn sure."

"That's not my jewelry on our joint account. Last night? I watched him rub off a lipstick stain on his lips before he walked in. I think... I think I'm going to call him out."

Este's words ring in Clay's ears even after she reaches her home. She throws the keys on the table and goes straight to her tiny apartment bathroom to take a shower. They live in a really small town and it won't be hard to catch her husband's mistress.

Clay cannot shake off the feeling no matter how hard she tries. Yoongi and Este have been high school sweethearts, romantic couple shit and everything. There is no way right? She has been friends with her forever and she didn't really know much about Yoongi even though he is her best friend's husband. His family moved into the town much later and by then Clay had moved to the city to study. She moved back years later as the chief of police to the small and always foggy town. She just hoped it was only one of Este's overthinking speculations and slept that night.

A week has passed by and Clay has been waiting for Este at the town's only decent diner for their weekly dinner on Tuesday. She has been worried about Este but she gave her some time to be. That woman is thinking her husband is cheating on her, it is only wise to leave her to be for a while is what Clay thought. Clay flattens the cigarette with her shoe and looks at the left split of the road. Este was supposed to be here an hour ago. Clay sighs and gets in the car, her hunger almost dead now. She drives to Este's house and rings the bell a couple of times.

"Este?" She knocks on the door. The door unlocks and it wasn't Esty. "Yoongi, hey. Is Este home?" Yoongi shakes his head and yawns. "Do you know where she is?" He shakes his head again. Clay clicks her tongue. The thought of wanting to walk away to search for her in some other place strikes her but she doesn't. "Can I wait for her here?" His face alerts at her words. The careless guy he was a few seconds ago is now turning into a cautious one. He opens the door wide and lets her in. He checks outside before closing the door.

"Seems like she didn't go to work today," Clay says after noticing her factory boots in the shoe case near the door. "I don't know, she was gone by the time I woke up," Yoongi says, sitting on the couch. "Did she leave a note?" Clay scans the room and her eyes pauses at the pink lacy panties tucked away under the drawer.

"She usually does but she didn't today," Yoongi says, handing her a beer. She shakes her head, "I have to drive." Yoongi chuckles and sits down on the coach. "It's one beer officer. Why fret?" She smirks and looks at him, "As you said, I am an officer. So I can't."

It's unlike Este, she never leaves without leaving a note or telling anyone. She hasn't gone to work, hasn't been at dinner and isn't home. "I think I'll leave. Ask Este to call me if she comes home," Clay says when he walks her to the door. Her eyes darted to his finger nails and a dark residue under them. "I will," he says, sliding his hand off the door knob. Her police instincts keep telling her that something is off about everything here. She tells herself to give it another day before drawing conclusions.

The call never comes but something else does.

Este's missing report.

Given exclusively by her husband, Yoongi.

Clay springs into action right away. It is not everyday you would get a missing person report in such a small town. She starts with interrogating Yoongi first.

"When was the last time you saw her?"

"Yesterday at 10.00 pm. She came home and left hurriedly without answering any of my questions," Yoongi says, casually. "So? You saw here less than 12 hours ago. Why are you reporting her?" Clay asks. Yoongi frowns, "What?"

"You can leave Yoongi. I will take it from here," Clay notes down something on the paper. Yoongi gulps as he gets up from the chair and walks out.

"Been a while," Clay grunts. She twists the key of the motor boat and sighs in content when it roars up to life. "Ugh," she throws a huge plastic bag into the boat and gets on it. "Aren't I glad that my father taught me how to drive a boat and aren't I glad that I'm a police because I know how to clean up a scene," Clay smiles as she reaches for the bottle of beer in an ice bucket. The chill evening breeze with purple skies reminds her of the times she went fishing with her father. Good old golden days.

"You will not get away with this."

"If you kill me, you will never know where her body is."

She replays the last words Yoongi spoke before she injected potassium into his body. Tear drop rolls down her cheek because it is true that she will never know where Este's body is. She didn't deserve that. Este didn't deserve that. She opens the plastic bag and drops some rocks in it. She spits on his body before closing it up and throwing it up in the lake. She watches as it sinks down and she was waiting for happiness to take hold of her. But it doesn't. There is no happiness until she finds Este's body. Not until she finds her best friend and puts her soul to rest.

No, no body, no crime

I wasn't letting up until the day he died

This was heavily inspired from Taylor swift's 'No body, No crime' song. I wrote this in a spur of the moment. This isn't much or anything I usually write but hey, I couldn't leave it in drafts.

This is not something that would suit everyone because there isn't  much Yoongi's interaction here so it's okay if you don't like this. Look forward to future ones.
