Chapter 8

The sudden change in the way Valerio connected with me is suspicious. I know he wouldn't be so easy on me and maybe, he was just fooling me so I could fail this training. If I failed, I won't be able to prove myself and I wouldn't be able to get him on my interview. Something shouldn't change, he might just be playing around and I don't like that.

Dumating ako sa training kasabay si kuya. He immediately went where the other trainees are while I went inside the lifeguard house wherein I found Valerio waiting for me. He was smiling and I feel like he has other plans in his head and the magic of his smile is to deceive.

But I acted normally, binalewala ko iyong nangyari kahapon, but I've already prepared myself to act accordingly to what needs to be done. Hindi pa man gano'n kabuo ang kaalaman ko about being a lifeguard, but I know I can do this at the end of everything.

Valerio tasked me to do the readings and then in the afternoon, we'll proceed with the physical training. Ang focus namin ngayon ay ang medical training which all the things what a first respondent do.

While I was reading, I noticed Mick on my side, another lifeguard and he's looking through the binocular while talking to someone over the radio. I think they normally do this every day since patrolling is one of the vital parts of this job. That's why there should always be someone inside the lifeguard's house to be the eye around the beach.

Saglit lamang ay may tao raw sa baba na kailangan ng tulong and there are only a few people around.

"Hey, Mick! What's going up there now?"

Tumalikod ako para hanapin iyong ibang lifeguard, but they've all got things to do. Mukhang wala rin naman akong choice. Iniwan panandalian ni Mick sa akin 'to, so he must've trust me then.

"Uhm... this is Aesthesia."

"Who?" pagtatanong pa nito.

"Uh, Aesthesia," pag-uulit ko pa ko. "I'm one of the trainees."

"Oh, okay, alright. Where's Mick?"

"There's someone who needed some help so Valerio and Mick went there. I'm just here for the meantime until he gets back."

"Cool," aniya. "Anyway, if you don't know who I am, I'm Brett. Nice to meet you, Aesthesia. Such a unique name."

"Yeah, most of them say it is. And yes, nice to meet you, too."

"Fantastic," he uttered. "Let's get back to work, alright? You'll be my lookout for now and tell me immediately if there's something going on."

"Copy, Brett," mabilis kong sagot.

Kailangan maging matalas ang paningin ko na para bang agila just to see what's happening. Some says that the danger doesn't only occur on the water, but within the land as well.

Maraming pwedeng mangyari, when I was here, I've heard multiple sexual harassment reports, children getting lost, and accidents that terrify everybody because of too much blood. Drowning is one of the deadliest things that could happen here, but anything could happen that's why I don't have to sway my attention away.
