THE LOUD RINGING OF COACH'S
whistle echoing through the room was more than enough to anger the girl who was taking notes. her head shot up, shooting daggers to the teachers face. "STILINKI" he shouted, making the girl turn her focus to the boy in front of her. "huh?" he asked his coach, still startled by the whistle.

"i asked you a questioned" he snapped at the student. "uh... sorry coach, what was it?" coach seem surprised yet disrespected at how unfocused the boy was. "it was, 'stilinski, are you paying attention back there?' "

"oh. well i am now.." he replied. "stilinski stop reminding me why i drink" he ordered. "every night" his extra commented would've made mariana laugh if it wasn't for her concern towards the boy. she locked eyes with scott whom also had a look of concern for his friend.

she softly patted the boy on his shoulder, making him turn around. "you okay, sti?" she asked his soulmate. "i'm okay. i was just asleep for a second" he reassured the girl. although it did anything but. she had noticed he didn't share much of his experience. it's not that he needed to, she just couldn't help but think if he second guesses wanting her help at all.

he caught scott's look, "scott, i said i'm okay" he promised his best friend. "dude...you weren't asleep" he told him. the girl caught the wolfs eyes, gesturing to the spastic boy's paper. she gently peered over his shoulder, his paper scribbled all over with only two words.

WAKE UP.

her heart dropped. it wasn't even a full month ago that the girl was experiencing things herself. things that connected her to the hollow. and there was a voice in the back of her head that told her maybe things really weren't completely over between her and the hollow.

the mccall pack was now outside, the six of them sitting together at a table as they all caught up with their needed school work whilst discussing the terrorizing elephant in the room. "okay, so what happens to a person that has a near death experience and comes out of it seeing things?" scott asked the group.

"and is unable to feel what's real or not?" stiles continued. "and is being haunted by demonic visions of their dead relatives?" allison added in. "they're all locked up because they're insane" isaac deadpanned.

"ha. can you at least try to be helpful, please?" stiles told the lahey boy, giving him a glare. "for half of my childhood, i was locked in a freezer. so being helpful is kind of a new thing for me" the blue eyed boy sarcastically replied. "okay, dude, are you still milking that?" before isaac had the change to reply, a blow to stiles side had him looking at mariana as he held his side in pain.

"OW! what the hell was that for?!" he asked her. "for invalidating isaac's trauma. not all of us had a loving fathers" she replied coldly. stiles saw on his part how what he said was fucked up, sighing as he turned to the boy to apologize.

before a word was said, a figure appeared next to the girl, making the group turn towards her. "hi. sorry. i couldn't help but overhear what you guys were talking about" the raven-haired girl spoke, looking at the six. "and i think i might actually know what you're talking about"

"there's a tibetan word for it, it's called 'bardo'"

the second those words were uttered, mariana froze, her soul faintly aching in the way it did when she too, went unconscious with the surrogates.

marina woke up with a gasp.

she was in new orleans.

"this is bardo" she began, "the state between life and death. while your body is currently back in beacon hills, your soul and subconscious are here" she finished explaining. "how did i get here?" she questioned her twin. "simple. you killed the one soul connected with yours. he too, is in bardo, just his own" she concluded.

hope was there.

her biological mother was there.

"danger has come, mariana. you must stop it. when the time is right, the spirit of the goddesses whom created you  will grant you the gift of your true quadbrid state."

"no" she choked out, "you're not real" she whispered, "you're not real" she repeated, her voice cracking. "you're wrong little dove" he taunted, "i'm real and i'm here to stay. chaos is coming, my sweet celeste, you and your little friends won't be able to stop me."

"mariana? mariana" the girl looked to whoever called her name, her throat going dry as her friends looked at her in concern, kira was just confused. "mari are you okay?" lydia asked the girl. she looked towards the strawberry, her eyes moving to the huntress beside her. "yeah—yeah, uhm" she looked around the table, her body slowly started to tremble. she knew how they were all looking at her because it was the same look she gave stiles, scott, and allison.

"i uh, um, i have to go" she spoke out with a shaky voice. no one missed how the girls hand trembled violently as she placed her belongings in her backpack. "mari-" stiles called out to her, only to be interrupted. "i'll see you guys later" she dismissed, quickly standing up and she hurried away. she ignored the many voices calling her name, the only thing on her mind was one person. she took out her phone, looking for said persons contact.

they picked up on the third ring, only making the girl panic more, "you were right, our connection is making his torture similar to mine. its still trying to get to me. the hollow is still after me" she spoke in fear. "deaton, i'm scared."

"i assure you i'll do everything i can to help, mariana. why don't you come down to the clinic"
stiles and the group watched the girl frantically run away. stiles knew something was wrong. because he felt that ache in his soul, too.

mariana sat on the metal table in the center of the animal clinic as deaton gave her a check-up. "tell me mariana, these day nightmares you have, what do you see?" he questioned the girl. "it's always the same thing" she started.

"i never re-live the whole thing, just certain parts, but they're all the same. i wake up in the mikaelson home, hope tells me i'm in bardo, hayley tells me danger is coming, and then some evil version of stiles attacks me and says the same thing every single time: 'chaos is coming' "

"i see" he replied. "from the time period in which stiles, scott, and allison sacrificed themselves to now, has any supernatural side of you come out?" he asked the girl. she shook her head. "no. the only thing i was able to do was take all the darkness for myself. rebekah mentioned something about me being a protector." she looked down, examining her hands.

"what if this has to end with me dead? what if that's the only thing it takes to truly stop this?"
deaton examined the sulk look on her face as she talked about her bardo experience. he knew how bad the girl wanted to be supernatural. "we'll figure it out, mariana. this will not end in you death"

"i know. but right now i don't care about me. this evil stiles said he's already here. he said we wouldn't able to stop him but hayley said we could. the bardo was mine yet he was able to supernaturally high-jack it. if he can come to me, is there anyway i could come to him?"

the sound of the main entrance bell took the two out their conversation. "deaton?" mariana's eyes widened at the sound of scott's name. the pair knew that wherever the teen wolf went, his sarcastic best friend was sure to follow. the vet excused himself from the girl, leaving the room to assist scott. mariana was not going to get caught so she did the only thing she knew how to do. run away.

as the three entered the examination room, deaton shared no look of surprise as they entered the empty room. "what can i help you two with today?"
