Julia's P.O.V

"So, did you text him yesterday?" Leah asked me.

"Nope, I couldn't." I replied.

"And did you talk to him today?" she asked again.

"Nope, I haven't seen him the whole day. I think he's not at school. I'm starting to think he's avoiding me." I said.

"Enough about Aaron, you'll end up going crazy." she said.

She's right.

"Did your dad allow you to stay yesterday or did he kick you out?" she asked after a few moments of silence.

"I just decided to leave. I really didn't want to see him."

"And how did your mom react when she saw you?"

"Don't call her my mom." I chuckled, but deep down I knew that I wasn't chuckling.

"Sorry." she said with a slight grin. "How did Sandra react when she saw you?" she rephrased.

"Luckily she wasn't drunk. But we had a little fight when I got there."

"About?"

"She was busy saying that Kevin is irresponsible and blah, blah, blah. I told her that Kevin is a much better parent than she could ever be. I just told her the truth." I said, taking a sip from my bottle of water.

"You still care about him, right?" she asked with a smile on her face.

"Who?" I asked in confusion.

"Kevin."

"I stopped caring when he first told me how much he hates me, and when he threw me out of the house late at night." I said, thinking about that incident.

Being kicked out of the house on a cold winter night. Had to walk for over an hour to Sandra's house and when I got there. She was too busy with a bunch of men to open up for her own daughter.

My love for both Sandra and Kevin died on that day.

"Jules, you okay?" she asked.

"Yeah, I'm okay. But, I no longer care about both of them."

"You can't have such a strained relationship with both your parents. Eventually you're gonna have to forgive them, and forget about the past." she said in a low voice.

"How do you forgive someone who has never asked for forgiveness?" I asked her, feeling a slight lump in my throat. "How do you forget about all the horrible things that your parents do and say to you? The fact that Sandra can get so drunk and forget about her only child, cuts me so deep. The fact that Kevin hates me, so much that he can't even look me in the eyes whenever I talk to him, is worse... So, I can't and I won't forgive them." I said truthfully. "I just can't wait to turn 18 so that I can get out of their lives." I added.

"I get that they've hurt you, but how are you going to survive without a job, a monthly allowance?" she asked.

"I have been saving forever, and eventually I'll get a job."

"As long as you don't skip the country." she said with a slight grin.

"I might just do that." I chuckled. "Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. Just one more year to go, after that, I'm out of their lives, and I'll be family-less." I said to her with a grin, and she smiled back.

"Anyways, how about we hang out this Saturday?" she asked.

"I can't. I'm going to watch Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare." I said to her. "You can join me if you want." I suggested with a grin.

"William Shakespeare?" she asked with a frown. "Thanks, but I'll pass." she chuckled and I chuckled back in response.

The day goes by quickly and I get into the car.

I play Easy On Me by Adele, start the car and drive out of the school premises.

Go easy on me baby
I was still a child
Didn't get the chance to
Feel the world around me
I had no time to choose
What I chose to do
So go easy on me

There ain't no room for things to change
When we are both so deeply stuck in our ways
You can't deny how hard I have tried
I changed who I was to put you both first
But now I give up

Honestly, for all these years I've tried to forgive Sandra and Kevin, but no more. I guess Adele is right when she says "there is no room for things to change".

I stop the song because somehow it just makes me feel so vulnerable.

I arrive at Sandra's and park the car in front of the gate. I jump out and walk to the front door. I find her sitting on the couch after opening the door.

"Who's car is that?" she asked whilst looking at the TV.

"Hello to you too Sandra." I said.

"I asked you a question."

"It's mine. Kevin bought it for me." I told her.

"Where's the truck that I bought for you?" she asked.

"He took it away. It was way too embarrassing."

"Does he know how much I spent on that?" she scoffed.

"Yes, less than a 150 dollars." I uttered.

"Ungrateful little brat." she scoffed.

"You can spend over 20 000 dollars on your car, and then you give me an old truck?" I asked rhetorically.

"Mxm." she uttered.

I ignore her and head to my room and change into comfortable clothes.

"You have a guest Julia!" she yelled from downstairs.

"I'll be down in a minute." I told her.

I walk downstairs and find Aaron leaning against the door frame.
