Their existence was chaos. Something that shouldn't be possible, but ever since becoming an error in the system the aftertale sans has defied the rules of the multiverse. It all started with the same setting the average undertale gains. The monsters trapped in the underground waiting for a human to fall down the mountain into their kingdom.

That humans awakens the power to save and reset reality through their soul of determination. With that they make their way through the underground learning about the monsters and eventually saving the monsters trapped to reintegrate with the human world..........

Of course with the power to erase and absolve themselves of any consequences why wouldn't they try and have their fun. What would happen if they killed them all instead and gain lots of LOVE? That's when something interesting happened as they were faced with the royal judge a skeleton called Sans. The one monster they never had to fight before killing every monster in the underground. And the fight was the hardest one the kid had ever faced.

The most interesting thing was the fact the monster Sans could remember the resets. The child always curious and the power over time itself continued to reset the world over and over and over again always killing everyone the monster loved. Eventually the Sans had lost his mind from seeing his brother constantly dying as the little demon cut his brother's head off.

Aftertale was different though than the other aus that suffered the same fate of constant genocide. There had only ever been one version of it unlike the other pure genocide routes. The Sans finally snapped and like most sans had a scientist background one that knew quite a bit about the soul.

The resets wouldn't stop unless they had more determination than the kid. The only way to get determination which was acceptable to him was through injecting himself with liquid determination. The results were far worse than they thought.

A monster wasn't supposed survive having pure determination in their souls as it was only a human trait. There were only a few special cases where monsters have gained determination. They're all nut jobs. And always a human balancer for the process of the exposer.

Instead of dying or resetting the Sans felt pure agony as his soul was ripped apart. And everything felt wrongwrong wrong wrong. He was no they were nononono.

Sans woke up back in bed in a very familiar setting. Sans woke up in an odd dark place in confusion. Sans stayed in bed confused at the reset and feeling incomplete. Sans sat there in the dark place feeling emptier than ever before.

Sans was confused and split in two, but not quite two, but not quite one. They were throughly disoriented, but also determined and pulled out their souls to figure out why they felt so strange, empty, and painful.

Sans stared as a chunk 1/5th of their soul was gone having blue with small red lines of cracks filled with determination glowing on it. Sans stared as only a small fraction or shard of a soul floated in front of him blue with small pulses of red.

Neither are supposed to be alive. A monster with only a fraction of their soul should be dead. They could only claim it as determination as Sans found out he was trapped in the save screen.

It only got worse from there as their desire to find a way to stop the kid pushed them even even further. Sans was killed over and over again while Sans was forced to stare into the darkness of the save screen with nothing to do.

They both existed separately yet where one and the same. They decided to take another chance with the determination injection as the saying goes madness is trying the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different outcome. The same feeling ripped through them again as they were broken into another piece.
