Energy Exchange

Ink shuddered his body buzzed with power. Releasing a shaky breath he focused his magic onto a blank piece of paper. His energy flowed in waves of colors seeping into the paper giving it life and energy. It was the birth of a new au. Ink collapsed onto the ground relieved. He lazy flicked his hand and the new au paper flew into the air to join the hundreds of others.

Ink grimaced though as he felt one of his aus being attacked by an outside force, but was to drained to fight right now. He prayed that they didn't destroy the au this time. Nightmare does spare aus so that they will give him more power through their fear. Unfortunately that didn't come to pass as one of the papers to violently rip.

It was like metaphorical punch in the gut for Ink as energy surged back into his being even more bountiful than the amount he had given. Ink groaned in pain at this. Why couldn't the energy just dissipate instead whenever the aus he creates are  destroyed all the energy he puts into the creation of the au plus the amount produced by the au comes back to him.

His body could take it, but it hurts like a bitch. And since Ink isn't exactly a natural creature as he lacks a soul his problem only increases. The magic within Ink's body builds up over time without an upper limit and Ink needs to release it safely if only because it hurts worse than any form of torture imaginable when it gets far above the limit of his body. That's where the creation of the aus came in as a safe way to release the built up energy. The only problem is the return policy of the energy when the au dies as explained above.

Ink went about creating another au quickly just in case the bad guys try to destroy more than one today. He hated these days as he was completely drained of energy and unable to go fight them as they keep sending him too much energy from destroyed aus while he is forced to create a new au or collapse in agony. Luckily there are only so many aus they can destroy before tiring out.

Being off his vials let's him ignore the pain completely, but that just meant he had to convince his uncaring mind to both create aus and then take his vials. He isn't particularly inclined to do anything without his emotion vials.

(This Ink has terrifying amount of energy build up and needs a safe way to release it by creating the aus. Unfortunately the aus return the energy and whatever extra energy is formed during that time upon its death. I was thinking about my Error God of Rebith story when this came to me.)

(I'm just imagine some horrid being destroying dozens upon dozens of aus and Ink goes full on soulless god mode with all that energy returned to him.)
