Portland...Again

The fires are burning

A city is churning

Traffic is at a halt

Turmoil runs on the street

The slapping of peoples' feet

Screams and wails of injustice break the night

Everyone is waving signs fists clenched ready for a fight

Police risk their lives to calm the storm

Melancholy grips the throat of a town that's torn

Violence and vandals run the streets of peaceful protest

What can be gained by the unrest

Ignorant and angry yells of prejudice and injustice rape the night's silence

This is the war cry of our society

People who have never experienced either march

Brand name clothing shield them from the nights breath

Brand new kicks and plump painted lips

March with signs and rocks

A city burns this night because of the privileged

People who have never know hunger or cold

Did they stop to cloth the homeless they marched pass

The homeless trying to stay in shelter

While the city burns and people run helter-skelter

Flannel and bearded fan boys unite for a cause

And the city burns looted, destroyed, and violated by the people screaming brutality.
