“The peach one with glitters is kind of nice.”

“Beck, I'll look like a two dollar hoe if I wore that. I mean, if at all I should look like a hoe, I should at least look like an expensive one,” Shay sallied, sliding to the next picture, leaving a frustrated Beck to roll her eyes, and Sunny and I struggling to bite back chuckles at her predicament, and yet silently empathizing with her.

After school, we had all decided to hang out at Beck’s place for a while, hence why we were currently in her room. However, the moment Shay had declared that she wanted to shop for a dress online, we had all scrambled at an escape plan even before she could ask for our help.

What can I say? Helping Shay choose something was a task that could drive one nuts – she was always so particular about details, and when she eventually did make a decision, you’d already be regretting all your life choices down to that point.

So, yeah, after hearing her say she wanted to shop online, I’d immediately offered to go get some snacks. Sunny had made an exaggerated show of being appalled by the state of Beck's shoe rack, and offered to help rearrange it. But Beck hadn’t been so fortunate.

Before she could make a getaway story, Shay had already gotten to her. And trust me, resisting Shay's, ‘pretty please’ face was practically impossible.

Hence, her current situation – stuck helping Shay decide on a dress. It’s not like it was a hard task – well, asides the fact that Shay had managed to find something wrong with every dress they’d seen so far. If it wasn't too flashy, then it just wasn’t stylish enough. And it’s been almost two hours now.

And knowing Shay, they’d probably still spend about an hour more before she’d finally decide on something. Beck, on her part, looked like she was caught between smiling and crying.

“Better to be a hoe, than to not be whole,” Sunny suddenly remarked. In the face of our confused stares, she chuckled. “It's from my book.”

A string of ‘oh’ followed her addition; we needed no further explanation to understand what she meant.

I felt my lips upturn in a chirpy smile as I asked, “what was the book title this time?”

“I Am A Teenager In Heat,” she answered between laughs, leaving the rest of us echoing the throaty sounds alongside her.

“Who even names their book that?” Shay echoed, her amusement clear.

“And why would your parents even let you read that?” Beck added.

Sunny gave a small shrug, as though she’d given up on trying to understand her parents’ book choices. “You should have seen the one Jessica got though.” She paused, eyes humorous, with us staring expectantly back at her. “Help! I'm Sex Obsessed,” she finished, leaving us doubled over in mirth.

“That's crazy,” Shay mused after the bubbly sounds dwindled down. “It sounds like something a sex addict should read.”

“I thought the same thing. But it's actually talking about how kids in their early teenage years tend to think a lot about the opposite sex. And about how their desires to experiment new things like sex for one, is at a high. It basically just gives tips on how to keep those tendencies in check.”

Another round of ‘oh’s’ followed Sunny’s explanation. I guess her parents’ decision of selecting that book for their 15-year-old daughter, made sense after all.

Let me give you a quick run through about Sunny’s parents. Both her parents were renowned authors; they'd written many hit books together about everyday life issues. Well, basically like self help books.
