Mordo, Cassie, and Wong watched as the first follower ran through the portal, killing him instantly from some sort of enchantment. From the other end of the hall, they saw Kaecilius cast a spell. The ball of energy are bigger and bigger before he slammed it not the ground causing a giant explosion. Debris shot through the corridor and the portal sending all of them flying backward.
Cassie had been the closest to the blast, causing her to shoot back and land on Strange, sending both of them through one of the sanctum portals. They crashed on the floor with a thud as the rumble and broken building collapsed over the portal. Cassie stood up, lending Stephen a hand. They stumbled out into the main entrance of the sanctum, its giant green staircase taking up most of the room.
"Hello?" Stephen called out to the room. "Where are we?"
"The New York Sanctum," Cassie told him as she brushed off her dirty knees. "We need to prepare Kaecilius will be coming to get us anytime now." She knew something on the second floor might be able to help them. Cassie ran up the stairs a couple of steps before turning back to Strange. "Come on, follow me."
Once they were on the second floor, Cassie roamed through the cases of ancient mystical artifacts, hoping one of them would help. Stephen, not knowing what to do wandered around the room until he approached the portal doors that lead to different areas of the world. There was an ocean, a forest, and a mountain landscape before him, each door containing a dial that could switch it to another place like the desert Strange had set one of the two.
"No, no no! I can't find it! I know it's around here somewhere!"
Strange turned back to her. "What are you looking for?"
"This chain contraption thingy is meant to keep someone held still like a metal straight jacket. I know it's here somewhere!" Rumbling sounded from the front of the sanctum. They looked towards the sound and then back at each other. "Shit I think it's too late."
Carefully, Stephen and Cassie made their way to the top of the staircase, peering overhead to see a man standing in front of the room guarding the manipulated dimension as Kaecilius and his associates stepped in. "Daniel, I see they made you the master of this Sanctum," Kaecilius said approaching him.
"You know what that means?" Daniel asked him back.
"That you'll die protecting it." He formed his hands in a flat formation, extending them outward to make a blade out of pieces of the mirror dimension.
His followers copied before breaking out into a fight. Daniel tried to hold them off best he could, but one of them got the back of his leg, sending him to the ground.
Before Cassie could stop him, Strange rushed forward to the railing. "Stop!" he shouted but it was too late. Kaecilius had rammed his blade into Daniel's heart. He looked up at them, realizing that they weren't alone before letting Daniel's corpse hit the ground.
"How long have you been at Kamar-Taj, mister?" he questioned Strange.
"Doctor," Stephen corrected.
"I don't think now is the time for correcting names," Cassie murmured next to him.
"Well, who am I to judge..." Kaecilius said with a smirk.
With a small nod, he sent his followers after them. Cassie and Stephen moved their hands, creating energy stings to prepare as two followers ran at them from both sides. They ran across the walls in a motion that defied physics until they were level with them. Strange went after one while Cassie took the other, they fought tooth and nail, using their magic whips to try and stop them.
