"That's alright," Sirius said, voice breaking.

My knees gave out and I slid to the floor. Remus seemed to realise how weak Sirius was as well, since he helped him down beside me.

Sirius refused to release Remus' shirt and so ended up sitting beside him against the cool rock.

"What are you doing here," I stammered.

Sirius head fell onto Remus' shoulder, and I watched his tears catch on the fibres of his jumper. Sirius looked at peace in a way one might had they stumbled into a dream.

"I've come to get you out," Remus explained, nodding towards the other side of the room where a rusted toaster lay on its side against the rock. "A portkey."

"A..." I didn't dare repeat the word. It was unfathomable.

"Will it work?" Sirius asked, voice croaky from crying.

"I hope so. It goes in about five minutes, but it should burn blue for a full minute before it departs," Remus replied, eyes falling on the man incarceroused on the opposite side of the room. "Who's he."

The man didn't give us time to answer, he interrupted with a string of words. "Secrets, don't tell, I hide, I kill. Don't tell."

"He's an Unspeakable. I imagine he had an accident while working in the Department of Mysteries – ended up here the same way we did," I shrugged.

"Sounds like a riot."

I smiled, catching Remus' eye and soaking in the warmth of his eyes and creases of his smile. It was so nice seeing someone's face.

"You both look horrible," he commented, a thumb swiping over the hollow delve beneath Sirius' cheekbone.

"I'm offended," Sirius retorted, "and here I thought a kiss meant you liked me."

Remus' laugh had more strength to it than all of Sirius' words put together.

"No, I just mean – you're too thin. Unnaturally so."

"Stasis charm," Sirius explained. "Kept us alive. Didn't keep our bodies from diminishing."

"Let's just get you home and fed as soon as possible then," Remus said easily.

Home.

I wasn't sure if it was registering that this was happening. We were being rescued. We were going home.

"When is it?" I started, feeling petrified of what the answer could be. "I mean, what's the date."

"October 4th."

October. It had been June when we'd left. It felt like longer, but we'd only been gone the Summer. I sighed out in relief, gratified that I hadn't missed years.

"We only realised you weren't dead a few weeks ago," Remus added.

"Really? How?" Sirius enquired.

"Fred actually worked it out." Remus looked at me and I felt my whole face shift as sheer joy surged through me.

"Fred?" I breathed.

"He found the compass. The one you gave him. It points to where people are, but it doesn't if they're dead. It pointed for you two."

I wanted to weep. My blood echoed in my ears like a solo drum thumping over and over. An image of Fred clutching the compass between nimble fingers and whispering my name caused my face to heat. "Zephyra Malfoy."

"He enlisted me and together we confirmed that you two weren't, in fact, dead."

"He looked for me?"

"We both did," Remus replied. A loving hand sweeping over Sirius hair, and I watched the joy ghost across Sirius' sunken features. "Broke into the ministry. We could have died – Merlin, I almost got him killed. It didn't work though; it took us a few weeks longer to formulate this plan. We weren't sure it was an option at first because..."
