Waking up had never given Vanadey such a fright. Especially now, considering she woke up falling. She grasped the railing of the steps, that the children had climbed, to keep herself sturdy. She glanced in front of her, where the Doctor had done the same because he, too, had woken up stumbling.
"Where have the children gone?" He asked, noticing the absense in the children that had been running around, laughing and playing with friends. Vanadey walked up the stairs, Rory and Amy close behind her, and she stopped just behind the Doctor. She noticed little ash piles with bags and her stomach churned.
"Oh no." She whispered, a hand going to her mouth. "Doctor..."
"Don't know. Play time's probably over." ROry answered and Vanadey rapidly shook her head. She knew the truth and she hated it. The realisation. This may be the dream, though. If it was, she was glad, but the pit in her stomach stopped her from believing that idea. Rory took in a deep breath, though, as the Doctor ran ahead and used his sonic screwdriver on the ash piles. "Ah, you see, this is the real one. I just feel it. Don't you feel it?" The sentence made Vanadey gag, suddenly a wave of nausea washed over her and the Doctor looked back.
"Ada, look away, yeah?" He watched the red head just stare at all the ash piles in disgust.
"How can you say this is the real one?" She asked Rory in disbelief. "Use your brain, Rory, for god's sake."
"I feel it both places." Amy said, torn between whether or not she should agree with her sister, who obviously didn't believe this was the real world, or her fiance, who did.
"I feel it here." Rory looked around, and Vanadey was stuck to watching the Doctor pick up one of the children's bag. Her bottom lip quivered. "It's just so...tranquil and relaxed. Nothing bad could ever happen here."
"Shut up, Rory!" Vanadey snapped, hating that Rory was describing this place as some place that was harmless when evidently, it was the opposite.
"Not really me though, is it?" Amy questioned and Rory looked heartbroken. Both Rory and Amy were oblivious to the ash piles. "I mean, would i be happy settling down in a place with a pub, two shops and a really bad amateur dramatics society?"
"Oh!" Rory exclaimed, offended. Vanadey just left the two to it and walked to the Doctor.
"That's why i got pregnant, so i don't have to see them doing Oklahoma." Amy then noticed the piles of ash and she frowned, watching the Doctor go around sonicking them. "Doctor, what are you doing? And what are those piles of dust?"
"Play time's definitely over." Was all the Doctor said for a moment, and Amy seemed to have gotten the memo because even her face paled.
"Oh, my god." She said and Vanadey pursed her lips, facing the Doctor and averting her eyes.
"What happened to them?" Rory asked, and the Doctor shrugged, taking a look around. However, his eyes caught hold of the old people, marching down the street.
"I think they did."
"I fucking told you." Vanadey seethed. She didn't mean to curse so much but she really couldn't help it as her eyes looked at the one and only, Mrs. Poggit. "Mrs. Poggit is sketchy."
"They're just old people." Amy said, baffled on what her sister and friend were insinuating.
"No." The Doctor denied, watching them all walk down the street slowly. Like turtles. "They're very old people." The Doctor grabbed Vanadey's hand and then ran down the wet steps, again, Rory and Amy were in tow. "Sorry, Rory, i don't think you're what's been keeping them alive." Suddenly, the old people stopped as the group got closer to them. Instead of walking down the street and possibly towards the care home, they began walking towards the Doctor, Vanadey, Amy and Rory.
