"So, question is, how do we stop the drill, given we can't get there in time? Plus also, how do we get out, given that we're surrounded?" He spoke aloud as he walked towards the screen Mo and Elliot were looking at, but he passed it and stood in the middle of them all. "Nasreen." He said, standing in front of the woman. "How d'you feel about an energy pulse, channelled up through the tunnels and to the base of the drill?"
"To blow up my life's work?" She asked incredulously as Tony was getting ready for the decontamination program.
"Yes." The Doctor curtly responded as he intertwined his own fingers. "Sorry. No nice way of putting that."
"Right, well..." she trailed off, a sad look on her face. "You're going to have to do it before the drill hits the city, in..."
"Eleven minuted, fourty seconds." Amy answered and the Doctor beamed.
"Yes!" He clapped and jogged to the console. "Squeaky bum time!" A snort came from besides Nasreen, who chuckled quietly at how hard Vanadey was trying to not laugh.
"Yes, but the explosion is going to cave in all the surrounding tunnels. So, we have to be on the surface by then."
"But we can't get past Restac's troops." Rory pointed out, which the Doctor frowned at a little. They had a minor set-back in their plan.
"I can help with that." Eldane, the old lizard man, said, which made everyone turn to face him as he slowly walked towards the Doctor. "Toxic Fumigation, an emergency failsafe meant to protect my species from infection. A warning signal to occupy cryo-chambers. After that, citywide fumigation, by toxic gas. Then the city shuts down."
"You could end up killing your own people." Amy said as she slowly approached Eldane.
"Only those foolish enough to follow Restac."
"Eldane, are you sure about this?" The Doctor questioned, hoping to silently get the point across that Eldane's decision has the potential to be harmful to possibly hundreds of his people.
"My priority is my race's survival." The lizard man replied, and Vanadey smiled at him sadly - not like he saw as she was stood beside Amy and he wasn't looking at her. "The Earth isn't ready for us to return...yet."
"No." The Doctor agreed, looking slightly sad as thoughts pondered inside his mind.
"Ten minutes, Doctor." Amy reminded, and a flash of hope lit up the Doctor's eyes as he faced the old lizard man once more.
"But maybe it should be. So, here's a deal. Everybody listening." All attention was turned to the tweed-wearing alien as he held a finger up and walked around the console. "Eldane," the Doctor patted said man's shoulder, "you activate shutdown...i'll amend the system, set your alarm for a thousand years' time."
"That means...a thousand years to sort your shit out." Vanadey lowly spat to Ambrose, who's breath hitched with slight fear of the fiery redheaded woman.
"Ada." The Doctor called, and said girl turned and looked at him like nothing was wrong. He chuckled and shook his head a little, which made her playfully pout at him - to which he returned. "A thousand years to sort the planet out. To be ready. Pass it on. As legend, or prophesy, or religion, but somehow, make it known." The Doctor looked at Elliot, and, with a determined look, the young boy nodded.
"Yeah." He agreed. "I get you." AT his response, the Doctor grinned and clicked his fingers, pointing at Elliot before turning around to face the others.
