Chapter 20

SATURDAY
7:30AM

"You always waking up early and hungry", said Tyquez as he fixed Marcus some cereal.

"Daddy? Can we go to the park?", asked Marcus.

"Yes. Later on when your mom wakes up", said Tyquez as he put the bowl of cereal in front of him.

Marcus begins to eat.

Tyquez watches him for a moment.

Marcus looks at him.

"What daddy?", asked Marcus as he laughed.

Tyquez smiled slightly. "Nothing son", said Tyquez. "Eat up"

Jordan walks into the kitchen and Tyquez looks at her.

"I thought I told you to get your rest", said Tyquez.

"I know", said she was she glanced at Marcus then looks at Tyquez. "I couldn't go back to sleep"

"Oh...well I'll make us some breakfast", said Tyquez.

"I can make —"

"Nah. You always cook. Let me do it", said Tyquez.

"Okay", she said before walking to the table. "How did you sleep?", she asked.

"Alright", said Tyquez. "You?"

"I slept okay", said Jordan as if she really didn't mean it.

"Why you say it like that?", he asked.

"I don't know. I just kept thinking about Daryl's drunk behind last night", said Jordan. "He's really taking Hakeem's death hard. I feel bad"

Tyquez doesn't say anything.

"But anyways...what are you cooking?", asked Jordan.

"Nothing special. Just some grits and sausage", said Tyquez.

Jordan walks to the Marcus.

"Is the cereal okay?", asked Jordan.

"It's good mommy", said Marcus.

Jordan smiles.

Tyquez looks at them then goes into the refrigerator.

"Jordan come here", Tyquez said.

Jordan noticed Tyquez's tone of voice got serious.

Jordan followed Tyquez out of the kitchen.

"What's up?", asked Jordan.

"Why are you acting like that?", asked Tyquez.

"Like what?", asked Jordan.

"Ever since Daryl said what he said last night you've been acting funny", said Tyquez.

"I've been asking fine", said Jordan.

"No you havent", said Tyquez.

"Yes I have. What are you trying to say? You think Marcus isn't yours?", asked Jordan.

"...Is he?", asked Tyquez.

"Wow Ty...wow. Look at him, then look in the mirror and you tell me", said Jordan.

"You were the one acting strange", said Tyquez.

"I've been acting strange because last night was disturbing. Daryl has always been there for Hakeem whether he knew that he was right or wrong. That was his little brother and I took him away from him", said Jordan. "I just wish I could take it back"

Tyquez looked down.

"Daryl knows how to make you feel...stupid. He knows how to get into your head.", said Jordan. "He was right about you and his cousin so I get if..if you believed him. But Marcus is yours"
