It was decided. The two heroes spent the next few days recovering from their mission, and Sonic from his wounds. The hedgehog found this time, though necessary, extremely boring, he couldn't lay on his back, and movement was stiff and sore. It also didn't help that (Y/N) still seemed a bit reserved. She still spoke to him, and she seemed genuinely okay around him, but the (a/t) had a distant gaze to her eyes whenever the two sat together and spoke. Sonic wasn't too sure what to do about it.
He knew it had to suck to have to put her feelings aside for his wishes, something he wasn't even sure he wanted to keep anymore. But that whole ordeal back at the base, as much as he would never admit it out loud, really scared him and brought forward some ugly emotions he never wanted to experience again. Plus, he agreed with what (Y/N) had said, he also didn't want to lose their friendship over something neither of them could control, and hearing her say she would respect his past... He was adamant about not putting her in danger.
A few days into their rest, Haven returned from... Whatever she was doing. Sonic didn't care to ask, but she seemed curious in his wounds. The moment the wolf's eyes saw the bandages, she was asking what had happened.
"Just got pretty badly scratched up on the mission." Sonic gave an empty shrug, "No biggie really."
"How bad is it?" The wolf asked, "The wrapping makes it look, well, really bad."
Sonic hesitated, not wanting to undo (Y/N)'s hard work. He knew the bandages probably needed replacing anyway, but he couldn't bring himself to do it, or ask the (a/t) to do it. He knew it would just upset her to see the damage again. However, Haven gave him a serious look,
"You know I can help if it's that bad. Plus, I wanna know what you've been up to. I don't really get many visitors, and I have a bunch of questions about the (a/t)."
Sonic raised a brow, "Why?"
"She's still staying here and I know nothing about her." Was her excuse, something Sonic couldn't argue with.
The hedgehog let out a sigh, knowing their host wouldn't let up on him until he answered her questions and let her poke around his wounds. He shifted his back to her, grunting at the pain. The wolf took this as her cue to get to work, and she started pulling the bandages off. She seemed to struggle with it for a moment, tugging a little roughly and causing Sonic to hiss in pain. He ended up helping her unwrap the bandaging, tossing it to the side and facing away again. He was kind of glad (Y/N) had decided to go for a walk, knowing how uncomfortable the wolf made her feel, and knowing just how intrusive she could be. Sonic hissed again as Haven started feeling over his wounds,
"I won't be able to talk if you touch me." He said through gritted teeth.
"Shut up and start talking." Haven said, ignoring him as she pressed her hands to his back, "How did you two meet anyway?"
The hedgehog raised a brow, aware she wasn't very socially inept but... Well still confused by the comment. Either way, he decided to deal with the pain as Haven checked his back.
"We met during the war." Sonic said, his hands now gripping his thighs. His back stung as Haven kept touching, "She broke me out of one of Eggman's bases, and from there we worked as a team to save the world."
"What do you mean?" The wolf asked, and the stinging slowly turned into a soothing warmth.
The hedgehog was caught off guard by the sudden lack of pain, but she shook his head, realising the wolf would have no idea what war was, or what had happened all those months ago. He caught her up on a quick summary, mentioning the new Phantom Ruby that no longer exists, the new villain Infinite, who also no longer exists, how (Y/N) had come to help him save the day and fight back against Eggman. He found himself smiling at the memories,
