New Addition

"Lena?" Jake's voice sounded through my phone speaker.

"What's wrong, Jakey?" I questioned, turning away from Paul's stove.

"So-something's wrong." His voice shook as he spoke.

"Where are you?" I asked, turning the stove off. "Calm down."

"I- I just got so angry, a-and I can't stop shaking." Jake rambled.

"What are you doing, Jake?" I asked, looking at Paul with wide eyes. "Where are you?"

"I'm almost home, Lena." Jake whined. "What's going on with me?"

"Stay calm, Jakey." I said softly. "Paul and I are on our way."

"Paul?" Jake growled out. "You're still with him?"

"Please, Jake." I muttered. "Get out of the car before you get too angry."

"What's going on with me, Lena?" Jake asked, whining again.

"I'll be right there, Jake." I said, hanging up the phone. "Paul, come on. Jake's about to shift, I think."

"You stay here." Paul demanded. "I'll go get Sam."

"Paul, please." I shook my head. "He's my best friend. I can't not be there for him."

"It's not safe." Paul shook his head, kissing the top of my head.

"I promise I won't go near him." I pleaded. "I just don't want him to feel alone. He called me, Paul, I can't abandon him now."

"Fine." He caved, grabbing his sweater and wrapping it around my shoulders. "Put some shoes on, baby."

"Thank you." I whispered, pulling my shoes onto my feet.

"I'll go shift." Paul muttered. "You follow me while I talk to Sam and the guys."

"I've never seen your wolf." I grinned. "I bet you're beautiful."

"Not nearly as beautiful as you are." Paul kissed my forehead. "Come on, Jake's probably freaking out right now."

Paul darted off into the treeline while I wandered outside of the house. A grey wolf stepped out of the treeline, and I grinned excitedly at him.

"Oh, Sam's friend has some explaining to do." I muttered, shaking my head. I followed Paul closely, running a hand through his soft fur as we rushed to Billy's. I heard Billy before I saw him, and I broke away from Paul, but stayed close to him.

"Stay calm, Jacob!" Billy pleaded.

"No!" Jake yelled, sounding angrier than I've ever heard him. "Where is she? What did they do to her?"

"Jake." I whispered. His eyes snapped over to me, and his shaking slowed down. But, at the sight of Paul growling lowly beside me, his shaking continued.

"Get over here, Lena." Jake demanded. "You're not safe!"

"Jake, you have to calm down." I said softly, taking a step back as Jake stepped toward me. "Jake, please don't. It's not safe for me to be this close to you right now."

"What have they been telling you?" Jake yelled, shaking more intensely when Paul stepped between us again. I gasped and stepped back as Jake shifted before me. His tan skin turned into rust colored fur, and he folded in on himself as he landed on four legs. He let out a pained howl before whimpering and looking around.

"Paul?" I whispered. "Can I talk to him?"

Paul whined lowly before gently moving out of my way. I stepped up to Jacob, watching Billy nod in my direction as I reached my hand up toward Jake.
