Vidar

"Have you ever met these people?" Vidar asks. They were on their way to meet the crew Rollo put together.

"I have." Ragnar told him. "Trust me, these men will get the job done."

Vidar stares at him for a moment before nodding. They walked into the home and found it filled with men. They were talking amongst each other and drinking. Vidar saw Rollo at the end of the table, opposite from where the door was.

"Erik." Ragnar greets a large man with long blond hair and a big bushy beard.

"Ragnar Lothbrok, welcome to my house." Erik greets and shakes his hand. Then he turns to Vidar. "You must be Vidar."

"I am." Vidar says with a respectful nod. "Thank you for allowing us to meet here. I hope your wife does not mind."

Erik raised his eyebrows a bit. "She doesn't. I'll be sure to pass along your concern." Vidar smiled and nodded. Erik turns back to Ragnar. "I've done as you asked, Ragnar, and sought out these young men to meet you. All of them have sworn upon their rings to keep this meeting a secret."

Ragnar looks at each of the men and smiles. "You have done well, my friend, although I knew I could trust you."

"What are we here for?" A man with two beads in his braid asks.

"You are?" Vidar asks.

"Leif." He answers. Vidar nods to him and Leif smiles back.

"You are here, firstly, because you have nothing better to do." Ragnar jokes. The men start laughing and protest mockingly. "See. all you lot live idle and wasted lives." The men now groan and protest.

"Listen." Vidar spoke loudly. The room went quiet.

"We have built a new boat." Ragnar gestured to Vidar and himself. "And with this boat for the first time, we can go west." Some of the men scoff while others chuckle. "Across the great sea to a place called England, where countless riches await us."

"How would we steer across the open sea?" A man with bright green eyes asked. "Will the famous Vidar help us through?" He jokes, causing the men to chuckle.

"And you are?" Vidar asks.

"Torstein." He says.

Vidar nods his head. "We have discovered a way." Vidar tells them.

"You want us to join you on this boat." Vidar was about to ask him for his name, but he stopped him. "I am Kauko." Vidar nods in thanks while the man chuckles.

"Yes, we want you to join." Rollo says from his seat. "And I have Ragnar's word that we will all be equal and share equally the spoils of our raid.

"If there are any." A man with very short hair says. He had a scowl on his face. Vidar turned to Leif.

"His name is Knut." He whispered. Vidar nodded his head.

Ragnar walks right in front of Knut. "I promise you Knut, I've heard witnesses."

"Just stories."

"Just stories..." Ragnar mocks. "Just stories." He walks towards the head of the table. "All things begin and end as stories."

"We have to remember, though, that Earl Haraldson has ordered us to sail east." Erik reminds them.

"The Earl knows nothing about our new boat." Vidar tells him. "He knows nothing about the new way of navigating. This is why he refuses to let us go west."

"He could kill us for this." Leif says. The men all nod and murmur in agreement.

"Yes, he could." Ragnar agrees. "We can offer you a chance to shine in battle and impress the gods, and to bring back such plunder that you have never seen before."
