Vidar

In the middle of the sea, a single boat passed over the waves under the sun. Vidar sat at the back with Jareth in his lap. The boy hasn't left Vidar's side the entire time. Vidar didn't mind and allowed the boy to play with his necklace when he got bored.

With Athelstan translating, Vitar found out the boy was twelve and his father was a blacksmith and his mother died when he was young. Vidar also taught him some words like, piss, shit, hungry, and thirsty. So, the important ones so far.

"You know Vidar, most men would wait to acquire more children." Ragnar said. "Especially after you just had twins."

"What makes you think I will keep Jareth?" Vidar asks.

"You haven't put the boy down, since you found him." Ragnar points out.

"And you let him touch your necklace." Floki says. "I tried to touch it once and you nearly cut my hand off."

"And-"

"Ok." Vidar interrupts Rollo. He looks down at the boy who smiles back at him. "I may keep him." The others snicker. "Just until I can find him a home."

Ragnar rolls his eyes and looks near the front and sees a land mass over the horizon. "Look."

Vidar looks up and sees the land and smiles. He gets up and points the land out to Jareth. "Home." Vidar says.

"H... Home." Jareth repeats, making Vidar smile.

...

They sailed through the river and around the large mountains covered in trees. Jareth looked around in such wonder that made Vidar smile. The boy said something he couldn't understand so he turned to the monk. "He says it is beautiful."

Vidar nodded in thanks and saw a man leaning against Athelstan. He wasn't breathing. "Ragnar." He said to get the man's attention. He nods towards the dead man, so Ragnar walks over and throws him overboard with the help from Leif.

Once they made it to the dock, there was a large crowd of people waiting for them. They were mostly family members of the crew and some children looking at them and asking questions. The rest were women admiring them.

"You take the boy ahead." Ragnar tells him. "We got all this." Vidar nods and takes Jareth off the boat. He hid his face in Vidar's cloak as they got closer to the crowd. Most of the people made way for them to pass, the rest were pushed away.

"Jareth." Vidar said. "Piss? Shit?" He asked. The boy nodded his head.

"Thirsty."

Vidar took him behind a house with a place for the boy to relieve himself. He left him there and went around the corner, so he had some privacy. He stopped a woman walking past for some water and she returned with it before Jareth was done.

When the boy returned, Vidar handed him the water and the boy downed it quickly. Then he heard footsteps behind him. "Vidar, the Earl summoned us." Leif told him.

Vidar sighed and held his hand out for the boy to take. Once he made it to the hall, he found all the plunder and slaves sitting in front of the Earl. Siggy eyed it all with a glimmer in her eye. But Vidar ignored all that. He focused on his daughter behind the Earls throne. She was already looking at him and she pulled out a necklace from behind her shirt. It was his symbol that she turned into ice. He smiled and mouthed the word 'later' to her. She nodded and went back to looking at the treasure.

Vidar placed Jareth by Athelstan and walked forward to stand by Ragnar. "My lord, it was easy to take all of these things. The priests in their temple, they had no weapons. They were like babies." Ragnar pulled on the rope and pulled Athelstan closer. "Here is one of their priests. We captured several of them to sell for slaves." He pushed him away. "It must be true that there are many more such holy places in England and other lands to the west. Likewise filled with such treasure, and to sail there will benefit us all."
