"It feels good when he approves doesn't it?" A collegue of mine asks. He too is waiting for Lex's comments, and is too anxious to wait anywhere other than outside his office. At least someone understands what it's like.
"Pretty awesome." I respond joyously. I am however not sure the joy has anything to do with the report. It could be disapproved for all I care. Thoughts of how lucky I must be to be on first name basis with my godlike boss overwhelm me so much so that I don't notice the individual in my office. I halt at the door, trying to check for any features I might identify. There are none.
"Can I help you?" I ask, still at the doorway. I dare not walk into a room with a stranger lest he is a derranged killer.
"Hey." The man says as he turns around and suddenly, an all too familiar smile disarms me. He continues; "Sorry I let myself in. I couldn't wait outside."
In my mind I am asking why but what comes out of my mouth is "Don't worry about it."
"How did you find me?" I inquire, genuinely curious.
"There's only one media house in Creekville, and only one May around here...wasn't much of a hustle truly." He responds, his face looking ever so glorious.
"Wow." Is all I can say. I don't even know what to do next, so I take the liberty of taking a few steps inside and standing right in the middle of the room. David is leaning against my desk.
This is such an awkward situation. I hate dilemmas, and i hate them even more when they involve men. Then again who invited this man to my workplace? I shake off the anxiety and slowly walk towards my desk. I walk around it and stop right behind my chair. I want to sit so I can establish a sense of authority. After all, this is my house. David is watching my every step quietly. He has not moved a muscle. Then he speaks; reducing the tension levels by a significant amount.
“Is that your boss?” he asks. I am surprised that is the first thing he asks, although given the looks they exchanged I could feel none is comfortable with the other. Masculinity for breakfast…great!
“Yeah. Why?” I ask in return. He shrugs it off looking out the window. “OH its nothing. Just curious.”
“Hmm,” I sight audibly so he can know I am not impressed with the answer. My issues aside, I am curios to find out what has brought his all the way here. And he is taking his sweet time.
“So what brings you here?” I ask, not even trying to beat around this bush because even my curiosity will not allow it.
"I came here to ask something of you." He says, suddenly looking serious. He looks into my eyes,  searching for something. I know I am supposed to respond but I am tongue-tied.
"Will you go to dinner with me?" He asks and for some reason I am relieved.  I don't know what I thought he would ask. Before I can respond, Lex's voice saying my name distabilizes my senses. Which day is it again?
Lex goes to say something but hesitates when his and David's eyes meet. Then slowly,  he tears his gaze away from the handsome stranger and drops it on me.
"I want you to cover the land story. I gather there's juice there. " he says.  Seeing as I am not in my right mental state standing between two equally alluring and yet intimidating giants, i merely nod. Now would have been a good time to say sure Lex, see how that plays out.  My subconscious starts and i dismiss her immediately. I am not going down that road, and David has come as a wake up call.
