" Thanks for the consideration on my life! "

" TOLD YOU HE WAS REAL. " - Lucy turned her head to her sister in a challenging manner.

" He said winter was almost over. " - Peter said, to no one specifically, his gaze was still in the direction the sleigh had gone. - " You know what that means. No more ice. "

" And no more bloody witch. " - Olivia concluded. She felt the smirk surging her face with the image of Jadis' dead body.

—-🍁—-

The river was cracking. Instead of simply frozen solid, only the waterfall was. The water itself was becoming liquid again, with a few blocks of ice escaping. There was only a short path of fully frozen ice, which was a bit unstable.

The new weapons were now safely placed around the bodies of each of their holders. Olivia had her bow and arrow in their usual place, while her spear was adjusted on her saddle.

" We need to cross, now! " - Peter said, desperately.

" Don't beavers make dams? " - Lucy queered, remembering her lessons back in school.

" I'm not that fast! " - Mr Beaver exclaimed.

" Come on! " - Peter rushed.

" wait! " - Susan yelled. - " Will you think about this for a minute? " - The older girl was afraid and worried. It was an unstable river, which could mean the group's death. She still couldn't set her mind to the idea of Narnia.

" We don't have a minute. " - Peter grunted. The boy was as annoyed as one could be. He wanted to cross that river as soon as possible, get to the legendary Aslan, and rescue his brother.

"I'm just trying to be realistic. " - Susan took a step back, a bit shocked about her brother's raspy tone.

" No, you're trying to be smart. As usual. " - Peter snapped, grabbing the youngest sibling's hand and taking her to the river, Olivia close behind.

Susan heard a sound of wolf howls in the distance, making her hurry. Whatever thoughts she had about stopping for a minute quickly vanished.

The group carefully got down the natural rocky path, and finally made it to the first margin of the river. The ice was cracking and very fragile, making them all worry.

Peter placed one foot on the ice, making it crack a little bit. The sound echoed and scared the boy, making him hesitate at the idea of crossing the river.

" Wait. Maybe I should go first. " - Mr Beaver held out his paws.

" Maybe you should. " - Peter said nervously.

Mr Beaver carefully tiptoed across the ice, hitting his tail lightly checking for instability.

" You have been sneaking second helpings, haven't you? " - Mrs Beaver asked her husband. Mr Beaver did not deny, claiming that he never knew what meal would be his last.

The four humans and the female beaver tried following Mr Beaver's steps. Lucy clinged to her brother's arm for dear life. Olivia went fearlessly, lightly, but fast. Doing little jumps and landing lightly on her tiptoes.

" If mum knew what we were doing... " - Susan said.

" Mum's not here. " - Peter cut her off.

They stopped when they heard ice crackling coming from the waterfall, looking atop as the wolves crossed it. Lucy yelled as she saw the wolves, making them all rush, but still carefully.

" Run! " Peter exclaimed. But they weren't fast enough. The group was stuck in a block of ice on the river. Wolves on both sides, growling and barking. Mr Beaver was tackled by one, and Mrs Beaver called his name in agony, he was her loved one! It hurt to see him in pain.

Peter unleashed his sword. Olivia had already her bow in hand, with the arrow aimed. Her focus quickly changed, for she did not know which wolf to shoot. Should she shoot the wolf attacking Mr Beaver? The wolf advancing slowly? The wolves trying to get them from behind? One false move and it could all go south. The wolves also had a significant number advantage.

" Put that down boy. " - a wolf growled, approaching them. - " Someone could get hurt. " - Olivia recognized him as the head of the wolves army.

" Don't worry about me, run him through! " - Mr Beaver yelled, trying to fight off the wolf in his skin.

" Leave now while you can, and your brother leaves with you. " - The wolf proposed. For the Pevensies, it was an intriguing proposition. But they couldn't simply leave Narnia and all its mates behind.

" Stop, Peter! Maybe we should listen to him! " - Olivia groaned at Susan's line. She thought Susan would at least hesitate at the proposition, the lack of empathy was shocking.

" Thanks for the consideration of my life! " - She yelled, pissed. The wolf only chuckled grimly. Olivia scrunched her nose, and put her bow away in a manner to calm the wolf and show him that she wasn't going to appeal for violence.

" Don't listen to him! Kill him! Kill him! " - Mr Beaver begged, having the wolf try to skim his neck while he did so.

" Oh, come on, this isn't your war. All my queen wants it for you to take your family and go. " - Peter held his sword high. Olivia tugged at her hidden dagger.

" Look, just because some man in a red coat hands you a sword, it doesn't make you a hero! Just drop it! " - Susan yelled.

" You drop it Susan! " - Olivia was annoyed at that point, it wasn't just about her life, but the lives of millions of narnians.

" No! Peter, Narnia needs you! Gut him while you still have a chance! " - Mr Beaver yelled and whimpered.

" What's it gonna be, son of Adam? I won't wait forever. And neither will the river. "

" Peter! " - Lucy yelled, looking at the waterfall that was turning into water again. Peter looked at his sides for an idea, and one came to mind.

" Hold onto me! " - He yelled, making Mrs Beaver and the girls grab onto his arms. Peter craved the sword on the block of ice they stood on, before the waterfall fell and caused a giant wave to take over. The wolf whimpered, before finding himself trying to swim. Mrs Beaver jumped on the river, while the Pevensie girls found themselves screaming, before a wave swallowed them whole.

A few seconds later, the four emerged from the waters. They found themselves on a margin with the two beavers, but soon realised Lucy wasn't there.

Olivia's eyes widened. Susan moved her head from side-to-side, looking for her sister.

" What have you done?! " - Susan exclaimed, looking at the coat in Peter's hands, as he was still in shock, he didn't know how to react.

" Lucy! " - Susan and Olivia screamed from the top of their lungs. Olivia did not know Lucy well, but she had already created a strong bond with the youngest.

" Lucy! " - They repeated. Suddenly, from their left side, they heard Lucy's soft voice:

" Has anyone seen my coat? "
