I wait for Lisa outside whilst she finishes her conversation with the barman.

Lisa: "I would have stayed out longer sweetie, but tomorrow I've got an early start!"

Lexi: "Really?"

Lisa: "Yes, we have a training course with the Hong Kong branch on "New tools for hosting!"

Lexi: "Oh... that doesn't sound fun!"

Lisa: "Yeah... It makes me laugh all their training courses! As if their hi-tech material could replace a beautiful warm smile!"

Lisa takes my arm and starts walking, hitting her hip against mine.

We stroll the streets of New York, chatting.

Lisa: "Sometimes I want to change my life..."

Lisa's gaze is lost in the distance.

Lexi: "Don't you like your job?"

Lisa: "Well... I don't feel there's any possibility of progressing.../nor on the job itself, nor on the pay. I don't think I want to be «Lisa the receptionist» all my life!"

Lexi: "Have you spoken to your boss?"

Lisa: "Yeah, a bit... But it's the same old story... Nothing available at the moment for someone with my skills... And to say that a personal assistants' post has just become vacant."

I give her a sideways glance.

Lisa: "I'm joking... Don't look like that! Anyway, I don't have your qualifications for a job like that!"

Lexi: "Yeah, you're joking, I'm sure you'd be very good, at least you'd never be fooled by a tabloid reporter!"

Lisa: "Stop that now! Anyone can make mistakes, but it is true that I would probably have made her eat her pen, the shrew..."

I chuckle at her harsh expression.

Lexi: "Nevertheless, if things continue like they are with Mr. Intense, you can soon try your luck. At my post, I mean..."

Lisa: "No kidding... I get it, don't touch the beautiful Ryan Carter, sooo seductive, sooo intense, sooo sexy!!"

Lisa gives me a wry smile.

Lexi: "Sooo charismatic!! Sooo manly!! Sooo bewitching!!"

Lisa: "I am so jealous of your gorgeous boss..."

Lexi: "Oh no, you shouldn't. It's not all rosy, you know..."

Lisa: "Oh, yeah?"

Lexi: "Well, actually it is."

Lisa gives me a sideways look that could be translated as "Bitch!"

We take another few steps giggling before we stop at an intersection.

Lisa: "Well, sweetie, I'm going this way!"

We hug.

Lexi: "Get home safely, and remember if you need to talk..."

Lisa: "Sure, take care of you too."

Lisa walks away, waving at me.

My heels tap a regular beat on the ground as I walk.

I make the most of it to admire the buildings towering all around me in a beautiful ballet of light.

The big apple is impressive and it's even more beautiful by night...
