Common Ground

Things have finally returned to normal (for Atlantis) with Elizabeth's recovery, which means we are again running for our life while being shot at.

"We must go faster, Rodney!" Teyla yells.

"This is pretty much my top gear!'

Ronon and Sheppard and I stop to lay covering fire, while the others make it to the DHD.

"If we make a stand here, we can take 'em." Ronon asserts.

"Negative. We don't know how many we're up against!" The Colonel takes a few shots. "Rodney, or Ali, one of you, dial the damn gate! Don't wait for us!"

"As if the bullets whizzing past my head weren't encouragement enough!"

Rodney works fast and gets the Gate activated. After Teyla and he makes it back the three of us run full speed, not chancing a look behind us.

We make it back all breathing hard from the exertion when Weir comes down from the control room. "Where's Colonel Sheppard?"

The four of us look around and see that he is in fact missing.

"Dial the gate," I order. "We gotta go back."

"Yes, ma'am."

We immediately go back but John is already gone.

After a search of the area we return with the teams, we brought with us and once again we were greeted by Doctor Weir.

"Anything?"

"There was no sign of Colonel Sheppard or our attackers," Teyla answers.

Ronon nods in agreement. "And they covered their tracks well."

"There's a possibility that they left the planet, so Rodney got the last fifty or so gate addresses."

"That should be helpful, but since the transmission which summoned us to the planet was sent using a code we gave to the Genii, that will be our starting point."

"What are you gonna do, like ask the Genii if one of them took Sheppard?" McKay asks sarcastically.

"Yes, I am." She responds cooly.

When we return home, Weir calls to Landon who says he'll come immediately, and at our request, Ronon, McKay, and I wait for him at the Gate.

As soon as the newly appointed Genii leader enters, Elizabeth gives him a warm greeting, but Ronon is not so... kind. The Satedan man towers over Landon, staring down at him with an intense, fiery, anger in his eyes. "What've you done with Sheppard?"

I put a hand over Ronon's shoulder, a gentle reminder of our goal here. "Landon's our guest, today."

He backs up in line with me, no longer glowering at him, but still glaring.

"How can I help?" This is all Landon responds with, not even addressing his encounter.

Our guards make quick work of disarming the Genii and sending them away except for Landon and his assistant or aide.

"I'm sorry this is necessary," Elizabeth starts, "but under the circumstances, I'm sure you understand."

"I came here as a friend, Doctor Weir; I hope to leave as one."

"And we appreciate your concern for Colonel Sheppard."

"Despite the fact that it was your incompetence that led to his capture."

Weir is clearly as shocked as the rest of us, by his outburst. "Rodney!"

"I'm sorry, but there is no disputing the fact that it was a code we provided the Genii that was used to lure us to that planet where we were ambushed!"
