Shortly after Wei Wuxian's ranking, was the archery competition. He remembered in the past from his memory that the Wens, especially Wen Chao, did not play by the rules and gave everyone a hard time. Word had spread about Wei Wuxian's new ranking and his ascension to immortality, which there was praise but some of the smaller sects were a bit offended that it was Wei Wuxian of all people to achieve such a status.

It was the Ouyang sect and the Yao sect, and of course, Jin Guangshan was also not liking the news. The Jiang's scolded those who took offense to it as they were only jealous that Wei Wuxian wasn't within their sect.

The Wen Sect held a grand Discussion Conference. The conference was to last for seven days. Each of the seven days' entertainment had been planned to be different. One of those days involved an archery competition.

The rules of the competition were as followed:  Any disciples younger than twenty were to enter the hunting grounds. Of the more than a thousand life-sized paper mannequin targets, only one hundred were possessed by fierce spirits. If one shot the wrong target, they were out at once. One could only stay in the competition if they continuously shot correct paper mannequins that held evil spirits in them. In the end, the disciples were ranked by who shot the most, who shot with highest accuracy, and so on.

In such an event, of course Wei Wuxian would be participating as one of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect's contestants. Before the competition, since he had been listening to the sects' debates for the entire morning, he was feeling unusually groggy. His spirits only lifted as he heaved the bow and arrows onto his back.

Yawning as he walked toward the hunting grounds, he suddenly caught sight of a handsome boy with a fair face and a cold demeanor to the side of him. He wore a red round-collar robe with sleeves that had tight openings and a belt of nine golden rings. This was the uniform attire of all of the juniors who came to the Qishan Discussion Conference. On him, it looked exceptionally good. He had a dash of elegance, a few traces of vigor, but a whole lot of good looks. One couldn't help but brighten up at the sight of such a boy.

"Lan Zhan!" He greeted by hugging him from behind, "I missed you so much."

Lan Wangji smiled as he turned and pulled him into a proper hug, "missed my Wei Ying too."

"Lan Zhan, I had heard some complain already saying I shouldn't compete because I am immortal now and it wouldn't be fair to others," he said pouting.

"Ridiculous!" Wangji said, "you are in the same age group, you should be allowed no matter your rank. You earned it fair and square."

"Wangji, what is it?" Xichen asked.

"Apparently there are some such as Yao, Ouyang, and Jin, who say Wei Ying shouldn't participate because he is immortal," Wangji explained, "if Wei Ying cannot compete I will not participate either."

"I agree," Jin Zixuan said, "if Wei Wuxian cannot compete just because he is immortal, I refuse to participate as well."

Other disciples said the same thing, Wei Wuxian began to feel overwhelmed by the amount of respect he has received from others. Lan Wangji held him close, "you deserve to be respected, you are adopted into the Jiang Sect and you are my fiancé, you should not be disrespected," he said.

In the end, they allowed Wei Wuxian to compete. He stuck close to Wangji though as they decided to ignore others and just compete against each other. In the end, Jin Zixuan ranked fifth, Jiang Cheng fourth, Lan Xichen was third, Lan Wangji was second, and Wei Wuxian was first.

"Of course, he is first because of him being immortal," a man by the name of Jin Zixun said.

"It's because he is a good archer, it has nothing to do with his spiritual status," Jin Zixuan argued, "if you say anything more you are disgraceful to the Jin Sect."
