After a long while of talking, we finally decided to let Aurelio stay. We treated his wounds ourselves, still cautious about leaving him with our people.
We got him some fresh clothes, bringing him to the main house.
We still didn't really trust him, so we decided to keep him with us for now.
By now, our plans to leave have already been canceled. We needed to stay with this dude until we could be sure of his intentions. Once he proved himself, we could talk about letting him walk free.
Aino decided to head back to work since we weren't going out, offering to take over some of my duties.
I stood up in our room, Aurelio laying in the corner on a blowup bed.
We stood silent, the only sound coming from my crochet hooks.
Yeah, I learned to crochet to keep myself busy at times. Especially when I was angry, so I could keep in my urge to punch people.
Right now, I was making a bunny plush. It was really cute so far, but it was still just a floating head right now.
Most of my projects went to the kids. It varied from plushies, clothes, and other decorations that they wanted.
This time, the project was for me.
I kept glancing up every now and then, keeping an eye on Aurelio. I didn't trust him one bit. Part of me wanted to give him a chance, but I couldn't fully do it when remembering what he's done.
Griff wouldn't be a Chimera right now if he had just let us go.
"Hey, Kama?" he called out, causing me to pause.
"What?" I asked, my tone coming off nastier than I wanted it to.
"I wanted to ask you for a favor," he began, sitting up on the mattress.
I glanced up at him, glaring as I stopped my crochet project.
"I... don't know how to brush my hair."
I let out a small chuckle, trying not to burst out laughing.
"Are you serious? The great, powerful, Aurelio can't comb his hair?" I smirked, fully placing the bunny on my nightstand.
"Well, Olivia used to brush my hair. I never learned how to do it myself, and it's gotten tangled on the way here," he groaned, turning red from embarrassment.
"Alright, fine. I'll brush your hair, but I'm also going to teach you," I got up, walking over to him.
"You will?" he gasped, his eyes having a sparkle in them now.
I just stared at him, a bit shocked that this was the same Aurelio we met six years ago.
When we first interacted, he was so cold and creepy. He reminded me of a venomous snake in every way possible.
"Yeah, c'mon," I responded, making my way to the bathroom.
I looked on a shelf where we held all the brushes, pulling out a comb as well.
He came in, turning the light on so it wouldn't be totally dark.
"Alright, step in front of the mirror," I ordered, stepping back to give him room.
"Alright," he replied, stepping up to the sink.
"First things first, how do you part your hair?" I asked him, getting the comb ready.
"Huh?"
I rolled my eyes, deeply sighing at his stupidity.
"You can either part it down the middle, where your scalp shows," I began, using the comb to part it down the middle.
He tilted his head, looking nice and hard at the middle part I did.
"Or... you can do a side part," I finished, sweeping some of his hair to the left side.
"I like the middle part. It works better with my long hair," he answered, watching me put it back to the middle part.
"Alright, anything else?" I asked him, leaning so I could get a better view of him in the mirror.
His tongue poked into the side of his mouth, his head tilting once more.
"Can you by any chance cut it?"
I hummed, trying to think about what I could do.
"I can, yeah," I answered, starting to brush through the knots.
He hissed, feeling me pull through a hard knot.
"Damn, you were right. This is horrible." I sighed, trying to be gentle.
"I know, that's why I want to cut it. The camp actually wanted me to keep it long, but I want it gone now. It holds too many memories," he sighed, placing his hands on the sink.
I paused for a bit, his words actually affecting me a bit.
"Is that why Griff's hair is longer than half the girls there?"
He let out a chuckle, shaking his head.
"Nah, they actually wanted him to keep his hair short. He refused and grew it out so long out of spite. One of my missions was to cut his ponytail in his sleep. That's how I got this scar, his second mouth bit me." he responded, showing me the scar on his shoulder.
"That's his second mouth for you," I laughed a bit, his hair becoming less knotted now.
"Oh, tell me about it. One time, we were on a mission together. We were supposed to retrieve a package that got stolen by a mole in the company. We had to fit in one box together. It would've been too suspicious if we had gone separately. When we were squished together, his second mouth took a chunk out of my finger," he explained, showing me the missing part of his middle finger.
"It healed that way? They never tried to do a transplant or something?" I chuckled at the thought of it, seeing how it indented into his nail.
"Nope, they said that I was lucky he didn't bit my finger off. They said scars tell the stories of your past, so I should just let it heal," he sighed, placing his hand on the counter again.
My smile faded a bit, focusing back on his hair.
"How did you not see how fucked up that camp was earlier?"
I noticed him glance down, his eyelids covering his golden eyes.
"I don't know. Olivia treated me well, I guess. That was only because I stood loyal to them. I guess I liked having that care until you guys opened my eyes after so long. In a way, I always knew. I just liked having my riches and power," he sighed, placing his fucked up hand on his forehead.
I stood silent, focusing back to his hair again.
"So... how short do you want your hair?"
His face seemed to light up when I asked, like he's had the image in his head the whole time.
"Where do I start?"
