After dinner, the three of us walked through the winding down village as the night grew.
We reached the last house, a field of pure grass and flowers filling in the empty space. This was the border of the farm, and where the forest began.
I kept a distance, simply watching the two bond with one another. Aino taught Lio how to care for and feed the wolves, demonstrating first before letting him do anything. They were cautious since Lio was a stranger, but they still took their meal.
The two looked as though they were having fun, and it was obvious that Lio loosened up. They were cracking jokes, just relaxing with wolves energetically running around them.
I couldn't help but smile, simply watching from afar.
The night sky became much darker, and I grew bored fast. The wind held a chill in it, and the village was shutting down for the night.
I stood up from the ground, yawning from my exhaustion.
"Hey guys, I think I'm gonna call it a night. You two have fun," I called out, waving bye once I finished.
"Alright, I'll be there soon, Kam." Aino smiled, quickly focusing his attention on me when I spoke. I smiled as well, getting quickly flustered by him.
Lio simply waved back, seeming really happy now.
I walked back up the hill to the village, nearing the last house on the dirt road. Most of the lights were shut off, but the street lights still lit up to help me see. There were fewer people walking around, but they were probably still as busy as ever.
I took my time walking to the main house. It wasn't like I was in a rush, and my mind became more active as I moved in silence.
Some people greeted me, but others figured that I was not in a sociable mood, which was true.
I didn't know how to feel about today at all.
I still couldn't believe that Aurelio came here. He's been nicer, but I just can't decide if we should trust him or not. Each time I glanced over at him, I pictured the night when we fought to escape. I pictured the many times he tried to harm us, and my logic was telling me to kick his ass out.
On the other hand, I felt like giving him a chance. At the end of the day, what that camp put him through was unforgivable. We did make a pact to help anyone the camp couldn't, even if we had a past with them.
It just felt like so much. I'm not sure if he'd actually help us. What if I gave him a chance, and it turned out this was a mission where he was secretly working with Gri—
My heart dropped. My legs stopping me right then and there.
What if this was all a mission.
"Hey, Kama! How are y—"
I turned on my heel fast, heading back to the forest. I couldn't even bother to acknowledge the person who had approached me.
"Can't talk right now. I have something important I need to do."
