"Maybe next time, you can put me out of my misery,"

~ ☁︎

I woke up with a start, my throat feeling like it had shut off my airway from fear.

It had been a while since I had nightmares about that day. It still haunted me, but I soon learned to cope with it.

Now, it was like I was losing it.

I took a sharp breath in, my throat unclogging and finally letting air in. I began to breathe heavily, trying to catch my breath and calm down.

I was still outside in the woods, the sun peaking through the heavy leaves.

I decided to finally head back, knowing that my clothes were beyond dirty now. I just wanted to take a fresh bath. I wanted to take my mind off of that nightmare and the events of last night.

I stood, feeling a bit wobbly still. I ignored it, walking around the tree to see the field.

The grass was smooth. Cut down to a beautiful light green hill. I always found it pretty. The sun shining on the greens fully completed its beauty.

"Good morning,"

I let out a sharp gasp, quickly turning at the sudden voice.

Aurelio sat against the opposite side of the tree. A book rested against his thigh, his hand sprawled against it to keep it open.

He flipped the page, his eyes flickering up to look at mine.

"What are you doing here?! That's fucking creepy," I breathed heavily, placing my hand over my heart to feel it race.

"Well, I went back to the main house to sleep. I woke up at three in the morning, realizing that you still weren't there. I decided to look around, and I found you in the very same spot that I left you in. I decided to stay after that. Y'know, it's actually really dangerous to stay out in a forest at night with stray wolves that you're scared of," he explained, laughing a bit at the last part.

"Well, thank you, I'm glad you find my problems amusing. No matter how you phrase it, you're still fucking creepy. It sounds more like you were just watching me," I scoffed, turning to walk back to the trail.

He stood up, starting to follow me from a distance.

"Watching you? You decided to stay out in the fucking cold all night. Aino was worried, but he knew you were still mad. I jus—"

"Don't fucking act like you know Aino! Do you care that he's worried now? Well, you didn't give a shit when you nearly killed Griff in front of him just because they HUGGED."

"Oh. So, that's what this is about. You're still terrified of me,"

"Don't flatter yourself. I don't trust you. There's a difference,"

"You ordered me to stay away like I was some dog when I got near you! You hid behind that tree, so I couldn't see you."

"Fine! Maybe I'm terrified of you because anything in your line of vision can die at any moment."

"I'm blind in one eye, thanks to you. I can't carry much ground."

"Thank the gods! I'm fucking glad."

"You're fucked up."

"I'm fucked up? This is coming from the guy that used t—"

It wasn't his next words that cut me off.

It was his next action.

Despite our distance, I felt a hard slap fall across my face. It was hard enough to move my head, but no one was close enough to slap me.

Then I realized it.

"Did you just slap me with your eyes?"

He breathed heavily, glancing down at his hands like he physically did it.

"I... think so. I needed to shut you up because I hate how much you reminisce on the past. I used to, I USED to. I'M NOT THAT PERSON ANYMORE." he actually began to yell, his tone raising with anger behind it.

Even when we were enemies, he never really yelled. He always kept his calm composure. That was how he broke people.

"I want to believe you, but life hasn't been so kind. The chance that you could be lying is just as high as your chance of change. I don't want to risk it. I don't want to risk this farm."

He deeply sighed, taking another step close to me.

"Just please. Give me a chance to prove myself." he began, being cautious with his steps.

I took a step back, causing him to stop in place. He understood boundaries, and he knew not to cross them.

"Aurelio, just don't destroy us."

He frowned a bit, taking one step back to give us distance.

I glared at him, noticing how he didn't look back.

"Please."

"I won't. I promise,"

I stared at him for a little while longer, taking in a deep breath to calm down.

"Now, don't break it."
