YARA'S POINT OF VIEW.

I sit down on the VIP couch and let my back and nape lean. I look up. I let my body rest. The bar was dark and smoky, with the only light coming from the neon signs above each corner. Music blaring from the sound system, creating a thunderous atmosphere. My vision starts to get dizzy at ang sakit pa sa mata ng mga lights, kaya napapikit nalang ako ng mariin.

I hear nothing but loud music and cheering from the wild crowd. My head is slowly moving along with the music. I love the music, but I don't have the strength to stand and go to the dance floor to dance again.

I need a minute.

Despite this, i'm comfortable with my position.

Once a year lang naman ako nagwawalwal tuwing sasapit na kinabukasan ang birthday ko. When I say walwal, 'yung tipong maghapon akong nakahiga lang sa kama ko.

I will not let myself fall asleep until it's not twelve o'clock at midnight. I want to stay awake until my birthday.

I can do thisthis is a piece of cake!

"Hey, Yara!" I slowly open my eyes to take a look at the woman who's giving me a big—big smile while she's dancing in front of me.

"Hmm?" I raise my eyebrow.

"Happy birthday!" she says and lifts the bottle of alcohol, which makes me laugh.

"Give me a moment."

"I can't do that." umupo siya sa tabi ko, binuksan ang bote ng alak dahilan para mapabuntong hininga ako at umayos ng upo.

"Come on! Shot!" inabot niya sa'kin ang bote, tinanggap ko naman.

"Bottoms up!" sigaw niya.

I look at the bottle of alcohol because I don't think I can drink it all.

Ayoko magsuka!

"Go on!"

Happy birthday self!

"Let's fucking go!" she cheers, and I continue drinking.

"Happy birthday my friend!"

"Fuck you."

"Kaya mo 'yan!" umiling-iling ako. Hindi pa ako nakakapagsalita nang may pumutol na sa sasabihin ko.

"Hi, happy birthday." otomatiko na napataas ang dalawang kilay ko, napaayos ako ng upo.

"Who are you?" I ask, he smiles at me. He extends his hand, asking for a handshake, but I just stare at it for a moment. I can see the tattoos on his muscular forearms.

"Levi."

"Yara." I reach for his hand and gently shake it.

This is awkward.

When our hands collide, I feel something weird in my stomach that is somewhat in pain, so I immediately take my hand off.

Nagkatinginan kami.

Dark eyes. Those dark eyes.

"I'm sorry. I just heard your friend saying it's your birthday."

"I brought a bottle of water for you." Aniya, marahan niya itong inilapag sa table.

I laugh.

"A bottled water?"
