EARNING AN earful from an old man was a complete understatement.
Mikey and I pulled away the instant Grandpa Sano caught us in an awkward position with our lips almost closed to kissing. The shocked look he had on his face was absolutely indescribable.
"Oh, you're here, Grandpa," Mikey deadpanned. He acted as if nothing happened just now.
Grandpa Sano huffed. "Yes, I was out for a minute to buy some herbal tea in a nearby store and came back to see you two doing something (*ahem) inappropriate."
With a sharp look, he demanded both of us a good explanation of what he just saw like we did something illegal and wanted to know if we were in a relationship. He also asked why he wasn't aware of it.
I can't look Grandpa Sano in the eye and all I could do was cast my head down while biting my lower lip. It was way beyond embarrassing. I just came here to tend to Mikey's injuries and yet, how come we ended up in this kind of situation?
Mikey, on the other hand, was the one who clarified everything to his grandfather and he did it with a composed face. He held my hand and boldly told the old man that he was serious about me, making my entire face flush.
Grandpa Sano drew a deep sigh. "It's not that I'm against your relationship. I'm actually more than happy as it is," he simply stated.
Mikey and I were both quite stunned at his unexpected answer. "Really, Grandpa?"
"Of course! What do you think of your grandfather, Manjiro? I'm not that heartless to forbid my grandson from having a girlfriend. Especially if she's my friend's granddaughter."
The two of us exchanged furtive glances at each other.
Grandpa Sano cleared his throat to gain back our attention. "However, it doesn't mean you two can do whatever you please. Both of you are still young and have a bright future up ahead. You need to limit yourselves and don't step overboard." He spared Mikey a stern gaze. "Especially you, Manjiro! You are the male. You have to respect and take good care of Chiyo's granddaughter."
"Don't worry, Grandpa. I'll do as you say," Mikey assured him.
Grandpa Sano was satisfied with his response and nodded. "That's what I wanted to hear from you. Does Chiyo already know about your relationship?"
"N-no, she doesn't. Are you going to tell her, Grandpa?" I asked.
He shook his head. "It's better you tell her yourself, Y/N. But I know she'll also approve you two."
Oh, I'm sure Grandma will share the same feeling as you, Grandpa.
"Grandpa! I'm home!" it was Emma's voice. "Did we have a guest? I think I saw another pair of shoes in the entryway aside from Mikey's."
