ELEVEN YEARS in the future. Winter, 2016.

"I saw in your profile that you own a small cafe shop in Shibuya?"

I was too reluctant to respond and only gave this gentleman sitting across the table a faint hum. I was invited to a high-end restaurant to have our date. This fine-looking man was a young elite entrepreneur in his late twenties and introduced himself as Sugimoto Seiji. He took pride in his family's winery and was bragging about how the business remained successful throughout the decades.

Apparently, Keiko recommended this dating site on the internet to help me move on and have a fresh start. She thought it was time for me to find a new man in my life and begin a new relationship. That crazy girl had been worried about my well-being every now and then even though she was already a married woman with a cute daughter.

Was I not doing good all these years?

Sugimoto took a sip of his red wine and nodded in acknowledgment. "Oh, I see. So, how is your small business doing?"

My eyebrow twitched in annoyance at how he deliberately put a great emphasis on the phrase 'small business'. This conceited guy was obviously belittling my cafe shop. "The cafe is doing perfectly fine. Thank you for asking," I replied calmly, although I was cursing this asshole at the back of my mind. "It was originally owned by my grandmother before she handed down the business to me when she passed away."

The young man was eyeing me with pity. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that."

I merely dismissed his fake sympathy. "No, it's fine. It's been a few years since she died anyway." I sliced a small portion of the delicious steak I ordered and gracefully brought it to my mouth.

I did not want to lose my appetite because of his lack of integrity. I could see this guy as someone greedy with money and fame because all he did was gloating his damn business and I knew my instinct would always never go wrong. I just wished for this date to be done with and go home.

After I finished my dinner and a few more exchanges of tedious words with my date, I thanked Sugimoto for his time and bid him farewell. The guy was decent enough to pay for our meal and even offered me a ride home. But I politely refused his kind offer and told him I had a car. I did not want this stranger to know my real home address since the one I put on the dating site was my old residence. I was planning not to speak with him again right after this date and will also block his given mobile number. He was good-looking but I did not like his pretentious character in general.

[So, how did your date go, Y/N?] Keiko immediately asked once I received her phone call, putting it on a loudspeaker. I was now driving my way back to my apartment. [Did that guy suit your taste?]
