Heavy, your eyelids felt swollen and thick as they wouldn't open, causing you to squint when you forced them open. You didn't need a mirror to know that your eyes were red and puffy from all the crying you had done the day prior. Not to mention, the lack of sleep was definitely not helping.

In order to avoid Dabi and prevent yourself from seeing him, you decided to wake up earlier than usual for work. If it meant you wouldn't have to see the man you loved but couldn't be with, you wouldn't mind waking up earlier than usual.

It was around six p.m., but you weren't supposed to be at work for another three hours as the bakery opened at ten. Either way, you forced yourself to the washroom and took a quick shower before changing into an appropriate outfit for work.

You were dressed in a pair of high-waisted black denim jeans and a white blouse that was tucked inside the pants. After putting your hair into a messy bun, you grabbed your bag before heading out of the apartment.

As you walked past the door in front of you, your chest couldn't help but tighten as your breath stopped for a moment.

Why did I have to fall in love with my neighbor?

As your manager wasn't expecting you for another two hours, you decided to drop by a cafe for a quick breakfast and some caffeine. Your body unquestionably needed some caffeine to keep you awake.

While you were out, Dabi was waiting outside your door, thinking you hadn't left yet. So, he waited and waited, patiently standing there leaning back with his back against his door. That was until he decided to check the time on his phone, making his eyes narrow as he pushed himself off the wall.

KNOCK KNOCK

Dabi waited for an answer, but nothing happened. He knew it would be likely, but he couldn't bring himself to the answer that you were purposely avoiding him now.

KNOCK KNOCK

Still, it remained silent. There were no sounds of footsteps or signs that you were looking through the peephole.

Why are you avoiding me now? Dabi thought to himself as his eyes narrowed at the door in front of him.

Feeling defeated, Dabi sighed as he combed his hand through his spiky, dark locks with the other hand on his hip. He was truly confused as to why you would go this far to avoid him. For the most part, he was upset at himself.

Frustrated, Dabi stomped his way out of the apartment complex before heading to his car that was parked outside. He didn't care if he had to head to a meeting at work; he wanted to see you. Whether it was a short or long conversation, he didn't care. He just wanted to speak to you to get some closure or comfort so he could rid of this feeling in his chest.

"You know if you're not feeling well, you can go home, right?" Your manager mentioned it as she looked at you worriedly with her brows knitted.

The moment she saw you enter the bakery, she took notice of your puffy eyes, which have yet to go away. Of course, you couldn't bring yourself to tell her the truth, so you lied, saying that you were sick and it was some allergy. Thankfully, she took the lame excuse but couldn't help but worry about you.

"I'm fine, plus I'm feeling better than ever." You flashed her a smile from behind the counter as she organized some stuff upfront. However, your smile soon turned into a frown as you watched a familiar black car parked on the curb outside of the bakery.

No, it can't be him.

A familiar man with dark hair like coal emerged from the car, causing your heart to drop. You weren't prepared to see him, not anymore at least. You couldn't bring yourself to talk to the man after saying all of that. Especially knowing that he wouldn't look at you the same anymore.
