The early morning sun danced its way into the room showing off its radiance. Adeline's eyes blinked slowly as she lazily pulled herself up. She yawned and took in her surroundings looking confused before she remembered where she was. She had never left when she came to Noah's room. Instinctively, she raised the covers off her and sighed in relief. Nothing happened. She threw the covers off and walked quietly to the hall. The place was quiet.
"Noah!" she calmly called out but there was no answer. Realising that, she thanked God and went back inside for her shoes. She could easily slip away without any awkwardness about what happened between them the night before. Just as she walked towards the door, it opened to reveal a sweaty looking Noah with a bag in his hand. She stopped abruptly drinking in the sight of him with his damp hair matted to his forehead and his manly scent He had probably gone for a workout, she thought and begun to feel all tingly inside.
"Leaving without saying goodbye, are you?" he questioned amusedly making her feel a little ashamed.
"You weren't around and...and..."she begun mumbling.
"Adeline! I'm just messing wit' ya"
"Oh, but I was gonna call anyway."
"Yeah, you would've. Anyway I got you breakfast."
"Oh thanks but I've gotta go. My parents don't know where I am and must be worried."
"Ok, sure."
"I could bring Benjie by later, if you want."
"Okay" they both went silent, the awkwardness setting in
"About last night, I'm sorry." she apologised
"Don't apologise, it's my fault. I wasn't thinking straight and I love my wife" he said the last part mostly to convince himself.
"Yeah, you do after all that's why you married her, right?"
"Yeah,I guess so"
"I will see you later with Benjie"
"Okay" he made way for to pass but called her when she got to the door.
"You're not taking back what you said, right?"
"No, we will move to London."
"Great."
"Okay" she walked out and shut the door behind her pausing for a moment. She took in a deep breath trying to comport herself since all being close to him did was disorient her.
She dreaded the journey home since it meant facing her parents about losing her cool last night and spending the night away from home which was both a first for her, to them anyway. She walked solemnly into the house after she got out of the taxi.
"Adeline, is that you?" her mum yelled from her room.
"Yeah!" she replied. Joycelyn came out moments later with a scowl on her face. It was evident she was mad.
"Where are you coming from" she harshly questioned
"Huh...I slept at Noah's place"
"Have you no morals left, Ade? You may think you are old enough to make your own decisions because you have a child but that doesn't give you the right to do whatever you want as long as you're still under our roof. The man is married for God's sake and you still spent the night with him. I don't like what you've become Ade and I certainly didn't bring you up this way"
"I'm sorry, mum." she apologised tears swelling in her eyes.
"Come here" she walked into the open arms of her mother sobbing. "It's gonna be okay."
