Goodbye Yondu

Blake: Yondu!

He got up.

Yondu: I'm alright, Slade.

I hugged him.

Blake: Thank you.

I said with tears.

Yondu: I knew you both could do it.

Meanwhile

Zoe, Gamora, and Nebula finally made it up to the extraction point.

Meanwhile

Rocket found us.

Rocket: Yondu! Blake! We're about to blow!

Yondu: Get to the ship!

Blake: What?

Rocket: Not with Quill!

Yondu: You need to take care of the twig! And Slade, you need to go with them!

Rocket: Not without you.

Yondu: I ain't done nothin' right my whole life, rat. And I ain't been a good father to my boys, either. You need  to give me this.

Blake: What? Yondu, no. You're just gonna give your life up?

Yondu: I'm doing what needs to be done. I sure as heck ain't lettin' you lose your brother.

Blake: But I can't lose you, either. We can't lose you. You could have a chance to part of our team. Of our family. A better family that cares for each other.

I teared up, saying this.

Yondu put his hands on my shoulders.

Yondu: I already had that. And I'm looking at one of them right now. And I'm proud of all the amazing things he has done. Both of my boys have grown up good. I think I've already done my job. Now you need to go do yours and take care of someone you care about.

That just caused the dam to burst.

I hugged Yondu again.

Blake: I love you, Dad.

Yondu hugged me.

Yondu: I love you too, boy.

He released me.

Yondu: Now go.

Rocket handed something to Yondu.

Rocket: A spacesuit and an Aero ring. I only have of each.

Yondu took them in his hands.

Rocket was about to fly off, but he looked like he wanted to say something.

Groot: I am Groot.

Yondu: What's that?

Rocket: He said "Welcome to the frickin' guardians of the galaxy.", only he didn't use frickin'.

I smiled, knowing what Groot was doing.

We both flew off.

Yondu: Bye, twig. Bye, Slade.

Blake: Goodbye.

Rocket: We're gonna need to have a real discussion about your language.

We both flew toward the ship.

Meanwhile

Nebula was sitting in the corner. Gamora was checking Mantis to see when she would wake up. Zoe was looking out to see when the rest of us would be coming back.

Zoe: Please, come back, Blake.

Soon, me, Rocket and Groot flew into the scene and landed on the ship.

Zoe: Blake!

Blake: Zoe.

Zoe hugged Blake.

Both: You're okay.

Unexpectedly, Zoe actually kissed me. I was surprised, but her lips got comfortable as I caressed her ears. Then we pulled apart.

Zoe: Sorry. I was just so worried about you.

Blake: So was I. It's okay.

Gamora: Where's Peter?

Groot hopped off Rocket's shoulder.

Zoe: Where's Yondu?

I started feeling sad.

Blake: Yondu...is....he

Gamora: Rocket, where is he?

Rocket still didn't answer as he looked at the timer.

Gamora: Rocket. ROCKET LOOK AT ME! WHERE IS HE?!

Gamora looked desperate.

Groot point out there.

Gamora: No.

Blake: He's still buying time to distract him.

Zoe: What?

Gamora: I'm not leaving without him.

Gamora grabbed a gun, cocked it, but then she got tazed by Rocket and collapsed.

Rocket: Sorry. I can only afford to lose one friend today. Kraglin, go!

Zoe: No! You just can't leave him!

Blake: Yondu will save him.

Zoe: Can he save himself, too? What about Yondu, he's your father.

Blake: That's why I trust him.

Zoe: But you're gonna let him die?

Blake: HE EXCEPTED HIS FATE!

Zoe stepped back in shock of the outburst.

Zoe: Do you except it?

That's when I broke down.

Blake: I don't want to. But I don't wanna lose anyone else. I don't wanna lose you, either. Never again.

Zoe realized what he was saying as she let him cry into her shoulder.

Zoe: I'm sorry.

We kept flying up.

I waited. I kept looking out the window. Just waiting for a sign to see if Peter and Yondu were out there. Zoe was there with me. She fell asleep in my arm.

Then I saw a sign. The was Peter. Wearing a spacesuit. Holding Yondu.

Blake: Everyone! Open the hatch!

We all scrambled to the door.

Gamora: Peter!

We opened the hatch to see Peter still alive, with the spacesuit.

Then the truth hit me.

Rocket had one spacesuit that he gave to Yondu.

Yondu gave it to Peter.

That means....

Peter: I'm sorry, Blake. He sacrificed himself to save me.

I kneeled down on my feet in acceptance and sorrow.

Blake: He accepted his fate.
