Benjamin's POV
Flashback
Thirteen Years Ago

"BELLAMY OPHELIA PRESCOTT GET IN HERE NOW!" I hear my mother yell as I enter the house

I groaned and walked to the kitchen

"Yes mom." I asked

"Ugh! Why are your riding boots still on? You're tracking in mud!" She yelled

"You're the one who told me to get in here now. Next time let me settle in before you start nagging me."

"Excuse me? You do not talk to me that way! I am your mother and you are a child! If I spoke to my parents like this when I was twelve they'd have beaten the respect into me!"

"Shut up!" I mutter before turning to leave

"I'm not done speaking to you!"

"What is it you need to talk to me about?"

"Are you seriously going to stand there and pretend you didn't do anything?"

"I'm passing all my classes and improving in riding."

"Take off your hoodie." She hissed

"Oh that's why you're acting crazy."

I removed my hoodie to reveal my new haircut and dye job. She let out a dramatic sound at the sight of my hair

"Why do you insist on always cutting your beautiful hair? You promised me you'd stop cutting it and let it grow out."

"No I promised to stop cutting it on my own which is why I went to a salon. I even dyed my hair a natural color so you wouldn't feel embarrassed to be around me at church. You're welcome!" I clarified

"PLATINUM IS NOT A NATURAL HAIR COLOR! Where did you get money to go to the salon and what salon dyes and cuts a twelve year old's hair without consulting with the parents first?"

"I took a cab to a neighboring town and got my hair done there." I shrugged

"You're unbelievable! Not only did you steal my card but you went behind mine and your father's back to pull this stunt?"

"I didn't do anything behind your back. The salon requires a consent form to be signed by an adult. They also require a deposit when booking the appointment. You signed the consent form, and gave me your card when I ask. Maybe if you listened to me when I spoke you'd know."

"You expect me to believe that?"

"I don't care what you believe. I'm telling the truth and dad will believe me because unlike you I'm not a stupid lying heifer!"

"BELLAMY OPHELIA PRESCOTT WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL YOUR MOTHER?!" I jumped when I heard dad's voice boom

"What are you doing home?" I asked

He was supposed to be away for the rest of the week doing something related to his gang

"I called him home since you're out of control."

"Your weight is the only thing out of control in this house." I spat

I jumped again at the sound of the front door slamming. I braced myself for the smack I was going to feel on the back of my head. It didn't take long for me to feel the impact of his heavy hand

"Go to your room and stay there until I come talk to you."

"Don't believe a word she says-"

"I'm not going to tell you again." He raised his voice again
