𝐖ho was the killer? Eden wondered as she watched the students in the Great Hall. Dumbledore had said that Hogwarts was impenetrable to those with evil intentions, but someone had killed Joshua and Elina. Eden knew Mattheo was not a target. Voldemort wouldn't kill his son. There was still Eden. She was the remaining heir, and the assassin would come for her.

But when? She couldn't stop thinking about it, even though Mattheo tried to calm her down. Still, they needed to have some fun to take their minds off things, so Eden had agreed to go to the party in the Forbidden Forest. The teachers were in an important meeting, which gave them the opportunity to go out discreetly. The redhead abandoned the idea of wearing a red dress, wanting to change things up a bit, so she grabbed a white dress.

The white was bright and shiny and her fiery hair made her shine. She put on a jacket and walked out of her dormitory to meet Mattheo in the hall. He was wearing a white shirt and black trousers and he looked handsome. Eden felt her heart race. When he saw her, Mattheo smiled and raised an eyebrow.

"Have you decided to be an angel?" he asked.

"Red is too flashy," Eden replied. "Right now I need to avoid attracting attention."

"You look beautiful no matter what colour you wear." Mattheo kissed her and then took her hand. The students arrived in groups and Eden walked deeper into the forest. Someone had built a fire that rose high into the sky and music was playing. Theodore waved to Mattheo and then turned back to Eden.

"I hate all these eyes on you," he said.

"That's all right, mine are just for you," Eden replied. She shook his hand, then they took a drink and joined Theodore, Lorenzo and Blaise. They were still having trouble understanding that Mattheo was with someone. The party went well, it was relaxing not to think about relics, horcruxes or anything else that reminded them of the darkness.

Mattheo leaned against a tree, a cigarette between his lips. He had a glass of alcohol in one hand and looked for Eden in the crowd. He didn't like being away from her and Blaise gave him a slap.

"Stop acting like a beaten dog, she won't get lost," he said. Mattheo grunted and tried to concentrate on the conversation. Eden hadn't managed to lose Jenna when she'd found her, so she sat on a log and listened to her moping.

She took the glass Edward Black had handed her and drank a little before passing it to Jenna, who finished it and then looked at her.

"I have to pee," Eden said as she got up. She rolled her eyes and walked away. Jenna was a nice girl, but she talked too much and Eden had a lot on her mind. She pulled away and huffed. Her mouth tasted strange and she winced before stopping and bending down to pee.

She shivered, the silence was quite frightening. Eden got to her feet and walked over to the river to wash her hands, the water was freezing cold. She heard footsteps behind her and stood up, but her head was spinning and she staggered before someone caught her.

"Take it easy, you must have had a bit too much to drink." The voice seemed to come from a distance, but Eden recognised Edward's face. He smiled at her and caressed her cheek. "I thought it would be harder to get to you because you haven't drunk it all, but you make it easy for me."

"What are you..." Eden winced, feeling as if she couldn't speak, and she heard screams. What had Edward said?

"The drink..., Jenna..." Eden shook on her legs and Edward chuckled.

"No one will miss her," Edward said. "On the other hand, I'm sure your dear little Mattheo will be devastated to hear of your death."

"No, let go," Eden tried to struggle, but he held her tightly.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of you. You won't suffer, I promise. You're lucky, Joshua and Elina didn't get that favour."

Eden's eyes widened, her breath caught and Edward smiled, revealing a monstrous grin. The screams still echoed and Mattheo looked down at Jenna's body.

"She's fucking dead," Lorenzo said. Mattheo looked around, shoving a few people away.

"Eden?" He shouted a few times, but with all the shouting and panic, he was pushed aside. Theodore grabbed him and looked at him worriedly, "Eden isn't here."

Theodore felt panic overtake him and they began to search for her. Eden looked at Edward, he seemed ruthless and she became frightened. She tried to fight again but he hit her and she fell, hitting her head on a stone. The pain shook her body and a hot liquid ran through her hair. Edward leaned over her and put his hands under her dress.

"Voldemort will be the happiest to hear of your death and I will be worshipped by the Master, Eden." He unzipped his trousers and wiped away the tear that rolled down Eden's cheek. Unable to speak or move, she was seized by a nameless cold, the cold of death. She struggled to keep from sinking, but it was so hard that it felt like she was doing nothing at all.

Mattheo felt his stomach tighten, he should have stayed with Eden. A killer was among them and she was a target, yet he had moved away. His heart pounded in his chest and Theodore looked at him.

"She might have gone a little further," he said. Mattheo nodded and followed Theodore. The moon was full, but the trees didn't let it spread its light, it was dark and cold.

Eden felt her body move as Edward moved, her back rubbing the earth. He grunted and kissed her before leaning into her ear.

"You should be happy, Eden. I'm being generous by giving you this before you die. Others would have been crueler," Edward said. Eden's lips were blue, the poison making her want to vomit, or maybe it was the impact of her skull on the stone. She didn't know. Edward stepped back and pulled his trousers back on.

Theodore was as worried as Mattheo, but he tried not to show it because Mattheo needed support. They reached the river and Mattheo froze, his brain not quite comprehending what he was seeing. First he saw Edward standing, then Eden lying on the ground. She wasn't moving and her dress was wet and pulled up to her stomach.

"Take Eden to the infirmary," he said to Theodore in a hoarse voice. He lunged at Edward, knocking him to the ground and lashing out at him. He struck with all the anger and strength he possessed. Theodore took off his jacket and covered Eden, then put one hand under her head and the other under her legs to lift her, but he was disturbed by the texture of her hair. Theodore withdrew his hand and half-opened his mouth.

"Mattheo!" he cried, but Edward's moans and pleas were too loud. Mattheo was angry. He punched him again and grabbed him by the collar before dragging him into the river. He pushed his head under the water and held him down, preventing him from getting up when Edward tried to struggle.

"Mattheo!" Theodore looked at Eden and noticed that she didn't react. Mattheo looked up and realised something was wrong. He straightened up and let go of Edward, who floated to the surface, and Mattheo rushed out of the water and knelt beside Eden.

"She's got a head injury," Theodore explained. Mattheo shook his head, refusing to think the worst, and picked Eden up. Feeling the warmth of her blood staining his shirt sleeve, he walked back up the forest. The professors had been alerted to Jenna and Mattheo called Dumbledore. The Headmaster went straight to the hospital and Mattheo had to leave Eden in the care of the doctors.

Mattheo dropped into a chair and buried his face in his hands. He was supposed to protect her, he had promised. Dumbledore sat down beside him and looked at him.

"What happened?" the headmaster asked. Mattheo lifted his head and clenched his jaw. His fists were bloody, his hands swollen from all the blows he'd landed.

"I killed Edward Black," Mattheo blurted out.
