Draco shot a withering glare across the quidditch field as she completed her run for the tryouts. Huffing with indignation, he stormed over like a thundercloud, getting up in her face. For once, he was not flanked by crude Crabbe and gobby Goyle. Though, the difference made him no less meaner.

"Trying to take my spot?" He sneered, backing her into a secluded corner of the pitch, just out of view. He loomed over her, tall and lean.

A smirk grew on her face at the sight of him. "Are you scared because I'm better than you are?"

Draco stiffened at her bold response, his eyebrow creeping up in surprise. "You think you're better than me, do you?" He stepped even closer, until he was practically on top of her, his breath tickling her ear. "Let me tell you something, little girl. You'll never be better than me."

She couldn't help but laugh at him. Was he being serious? "The team thinks differently, Malfoy."

Draco's scowl deepened as you laughed, his eyes narrowed into slits. "You think the team knows better? That they're more qualified to judge my worth than I am?" He was practically seething at this point, the veins on his neck standing out. "I'm the one who is actually out there flying and putting in the work."

"Is that so?" She shot back, angry at his entitlement. "Then why were they looking for a new seeker?"

Draco flinched at the jab, the air suddenly feeling a few degrees hotter. His mind quickly scrambled as it processed what she said.

"...What?" His voice was dangerously quiet — like a quiet, threatening storm. "What do you mean, they're looking for a new seeker?"

"I mean that you obviously haven't been working towards the goal, losing them a change at the cup." She scowled up at him. His height was intimidating but his behavior was a tantrum throwing toddler.

"How dare you accuse me of not putting in the work?!" His face had turned red with unbridled anger, his chest heaving as he fought to maintain his composure. "Just because I haven't been performing as well doesn't mean I'm not trying. You really think the best seeker in the world would just stop trying just because he's been experiencing a couple of setbacks?"

She patted him on the shoulder. "Better luck next time, because you've been replaced." She spoke with humor in her voice before walking away from the seething blonde.

Draco was frozen for a few seconds after she walked away. He could feel his blood boiling. How did she have the audacity to mock him in such a way?

"...Get back here, you little brat!" He shouted, stomping after her. "You're replacing me?" He was practically fuming at this point. "You better be joking, because if you think you're gonna replace me..."

She continued to walk, a smile plastered on her face. "If I think?" She spoke, not daring to look at him as she made her way across the pitch. "Honey, I already have."

"You..." he hissed, his voice cracking with rage, the blood in his veins practically boiling. "You what?" He was now walking parallel next to her, his lips pressed together in a thin line. "Tell me you're joking."

"Nope." She spoke, popping out the 'p'. "You're talking to the new seeker of Slytherin."

Draco felt a wave of heat wash over him and his jaw went tight. "No..." His voice sounded barely above a whisper. "That's not possible."

"It is." She rolled her eyes. "Have fun letting the news sink in." She gave him a little wave as she walked into the locker room.

Draco watched her walk off, his mind still spinning from the implications of what she said. No. There's no way. There was no way that a stupid, insignificant girl like you would steal the spot that he rightfully deserved.

He clenched his fists, feeling a wave of anger and humiliation crash over him.
