YEARS AGO
"After that man, my father, died, my brother pledged to donate his entire wealth to the foundation. The foundation held a grand party for him, as if they were touched by his great benevolence."
"They were all there, right? Cha Gyeong-hui and her husband? The president and his wife? Park Du-man and his wife? Min Yong-sik and his wife?" Eun-mi asked while nursing yet another shot of vodka.
Yo-han let out a hum as he tilted his head back and downed another shot in one go. It's three years of them working together to date. It's been a lot longer since Eun-chae died, and her parents shortly followed after. He and Eun-mi shared that in common as well, being an orphan. The only difference was that Eun-mi's parents were loving, while his mother abandoned him as a baby, and his father was harsh, unloving, and believed in corporal punishment too much.
"Do you remember Yi-sak at all?" Yo-han asked her, looking over his shoulder to look at her and her drowsy face.
"Somewhat. He was nice. The type of guy to play with spoiled, bratty eight-year-olds when he didn't have to. I remember you sneaking off to my sister's room and being so mad that I had to share her with you." Eun-mi told him before taking the shot of vodka.
"Sorry. She was the only real friend I had, and she made me selfish. I remember you had pigtails and ribbons in your hair. Yi-sak had to retie them for you whenever they fell out." Yo-han said with a lazy smile on his face as he reminisced about their youth.
Eun-mi frowned at the reminder of what she was like when she was young. She lightly elbowed him in the side, making him lightly laugh.
"Shut it and finish your story on why you're so desperate to get to the top and hunt these rich assholes. I finally get to know why you're so eager to pay me so much money to keep me by your side." Eun-mi told him with the frown sticking on her face.
"Alright, alright. From what I can gather, as soon as the beginning ceremony was over, everyone began kissing up to my brother. They acted all nice and polite in front of him, his wife, and little Elijah. You know they called him a saint to Elijah?"
"Seriously? What kiss asses."
"I know. I was outside of St. Verena Cathedral, where the event was taking place, and I ran into Elijah. Can you believe she used to actually like me and wanted me to join the party?"
"No. Elijah can barely stand you right now. That's why she snuck my number from your phone and introduced herself to me."
"She did, I swear! She even told me to hurry up and get inside. We were attached!"
