"I got three people fired." Eun-mi suddenly said this while lying in bed with her boyfriend.
"That you did, honey. And it was for the betterment of our lives." Yo-han retorted from his spot next to her.
Tonight while Yo-han read "Beyond Good and Evil," he had his left hand on his girlfriend's right knee while his other hand not only kept up the book but flipped the pages as well. Eun-mi was going to go to sleep but the realization of what she had really done to the two rookie judges and the old man hit her like when one thought they heard someone call their name and their head swerved all over the place to find the caller.
"I ended three careers. Granted, the rookie judges can probably bounce back with no problem if we just don't tell anyone that they're pretty awful at being judges but Min Jeong-ho is old. And he got attacked outside of his home, which he thinks we planned. There's no way he can continue on after everything." Eun-mi told him with a slightly upset tone in her voice.
Yo-han cracked a smile at her words before he looked over at her. He leaned in and placed a kiss on the crown of her forehead.
"Look at you, having a heart for the annoying and willing to betray. They don't deserve your mercy, honey." Yo-han said in an amused but gentle tone. After a moment, his expression turned more serious, which she had already become accustomed to. "As much as I love your gentle side, you can't be kind to these type of people. They were bound to betray us eventually and we'd end up dead or rotting away in jail. I've tried to be nice, but all that's gotten me is more trouble than I wanted to deal with, and they're making you doubt yourself. Do you not believe in what I'm trying to do anymore?"
"Of course I do. I've always believed in you and your goals since we first started working together on this. That hasn't changed at all." Eun-mi reassured him with a gentle look on her face. "It's just-It doesn't feel like what we're doing is worth how many sins we've committed, how many lines we've had to cross, and we're doing more harm than good. Hell, I still get emails and hate letters about kids flogging each other in the streets for fun and copying the way you act in court to whoever they think is a criminal."
"Honey, that's out of our control. We never signed up to be good role models or to parent someone else's child. Again. You can't shoulder all of the blame or you're going to drive yourself crazy like this." Yo-han said in a bit of a pointed manner. He drew circles on her skin with his thumb as he stared at her with rare gentleness, which she was sure he reserved for her, Elijah, and sometimes K. "I know you have doubts; I'm not saying you shouldn't, but you have to remember something. This isn't pointless violence like whatever the SRF have done to me, to you, and to the entire slum community. It's dramatic, ruthless, and completely out of the ordinary, I know, but it's for a purpose. And once we're done, then we're done for good, and we can do whatever we want with the rest of our lives."
