A week had passed since I became a Runner. I ran every day, and I loved it. I had been running with Minho all week to get used to the maze before I could run alone. Spending my days with him had allowed me to get to know him. I don't know if I've ever met sassy boys, but I'm now certain he's the sassiest boy I know. Despite his sarcastic and narcissistic side, he's very kind. I enjoy spending time with him a lot, but I probably won't tell him to avoid inflating his ego.
Today, Alby had given me a day off before I start running alone. I wasn't sure what to do during this day, but I figured I'd find something.
So I woke up later than usual. Minho had already left for the maze, and Newt had already eaten with Alby. I decided to have breakfast with Chuck, Clint, and Jeff.
"So, how does it feel to have a day off, Maylin ?" Jeff asked me.
"I'm not sure, I could have run today I think !"
"It's important that you rest, especially with your job. Running all day is tiring." Clint said to me.
I nodded. "And what about you guys, when do you get your days off ?" I asked.
"We don't really have them. At least, not often at the same time. It would be a problem if someone got hurt and the only two Med-jacks weren't there to help." Jeff replied.
"That must be annoying." I said simply.
The two Med-jacks chuckled, and we finished our breakfast together. I let Chuck, Jeff, and Clint head off to work, and then I made my way toward the forest for a walk, but I was intercepted along the way.
"Hey, Maylin, come over here." Gally called out to me.
"What's up ?" I asked him.
"Just come." He said, turning around and gesturing for me to follow him.
He led me not far from the Homestead, near the Keepers' huts. There was a hut, similar to the others, but one I had never seen before.
"And here it is !" Gally said, presenting the hut to me. "We finished building it this morning."
"Are you saying this is my hut ?" I asked, my eyes lighting up.
"Exactly ! Go on in." He said, opening the door.
Upon entering, I noticed it wasn't much different from the others. There was a wooden bed, a small desk with a chair, and shelves for my personal belongings. I then noticed a small bouquet of flowers placed on the bed. I picked it up, smelled the flowers, and turned back to Gally.
"Thank you ! And thank you for the flowers." I said, smiling at him.
"I don't know how they got there." He said, avoiding my gaze.
"Well, in that case, I'll thank the wind for bringing me this lovely bouquet !" I said, chuckling.
Gally chuckled as well and stepped further into the hut.
"You haven't seen it all yet." He said, opening another door.
This revealed a shower. It was almost like the communal showers, but this time, it was inside my room. It was impossible to see what was happening inside from the outside.
"Oh, thank you so much, Gally !" I exclaimed, giving him a hug.
He hesitated for a moment but then returned the embrace.
"You're welcome." He said.
We chatted for a few minutes before he left my new hut. Now I had to set up my belongings, although I had very little. I headed to the garden to find Newt so he could open his hut for me. He was the one keeping my clothes and personal items because apparently, a few boys had tried to steal my clothes during the first few days.
