Fortunately Daniel had the sense to call the police and the ambulance who ambushed Parag. He was relieved that Khushi was still breathing.

It had taken hours for her to come back from surgery. The surgeon had reported that she'd be fine. That was when Dhruv slumped on the chair. They had her sedated inside the ICU.

Siddharth had insisted that he go rest. When he refused, Viren told him that they should grab some essentials for Khushi for when she woke up. Dhruv knew it was ploy for him to rest.

His eyelids burned as he took a shower then changed into fresh clothes. After that, he walked to her room, Viren had sent her key card with the room service.

He opened her cupboard to find everything neatly arranged. He searched for a bag and found her suitcases near the bed. He opened the smaller one, it was heavy. He was shocked that it was busting with things.

It had many new shirts, coffee mugs, a coffee recipe
book, perfume bottles for men, and greeting cards. He opened each one and read them.

It didn't take him long enough to realise that it was all gifts. For him. For every birthday and every anniversary till the current year. He was sure because he had counted.

Apart from the gifts, he also found the stones that they played cards with, her wedding lehenga, her wedding jewellery, a velvet box that had the earrings he had gifted her. And a dry rose which she had laminated.

His hands nearly shook as he pulled out the last item. It was his shirt. It was the shirt he had left at her house before their wedding.

This had to be a joke. He thought. Why had she kept his shirt from all those years ago? The answer was so obvious.

He swallowed the lump in his throat. Dhruv regretted his words so much. Surrounded by pieces of her heart, he sobbed for a whole hour.

It has been a whole week until Khushi had opened her eyes and moved to the room. Riyan's custody had fallen to him now that Nita was dead and Parag was arrested. The nanny had also confessed to the truth.

They hardly spoke now that Khushi was awake. He was exhausted juggling bringing food for Khushi and managing Riyan. Khushi had spent her time mostly sleeping.

"I told Vikram to search for an appropriate school for Riyan. I guess he has been home for too long..." He said. Dhruv talked and talked, he hoped that she would recover and talk to him.

Somedays, Janvi came to see her, other days it was Aghanya. Khushi only made small talk with them. But with him, she was cold turkey.

It wrecked him inside but he didn't give up. Dishu had told him that he should apologise to her and maintain an optimistic demeanor. He tried to cheer her up but he couldn't even get her to crack a smile.

Then the doctor had to one day crack the news that bullet Parag shot in her thigh was going to affect her walking. She'd have a permanent limp now.

Dhruv tried to hold her hands after the doctor had left but she snatched it away. Sighing, he said nothing. He knew it affected her that she had a limp now. Her mood had soured more.

He decided to turn his optimism to the max level. He spoke to her more than usual.

"I'm thinking of enrolling him in this IB school." He scrolled through the website on his laptop, turning the screen towards her, "I think Riyan will find it easier to adjust here. They have swimming, horse riding and even track -"
