Your hands shook violently as you held the third attempt at your pregnancy test. Just like the other two, this one was positive. You stared at the little plus symbol for what felt like forever, and what brought you back to your senses was your phone ringing in your bedroom. You rushed to pick it up before whoever it was hung up, but when you saw the caller ID you paused.
It was Calum, your boyfriend.
You had no idea if you could act normal on the phone to him, as if you hadn't just found out that you were pregnant with his child. You almost considered pressing the reject button, but then you remembered how difficult you found it to sleep when you hadn't heard his voice all day.
"Hi," you said sheepishly.
"Hey babe, are you okay?"
"I'm good thanks, just missing you. Are you?"
"I miss you too babe. I'm alright I guess, I just want to see you."
"When will be the next time we can see each other?"
"Hopefully soon, but I can't say for sure. We've only got one day off in the next two weeks and that's in two days time, so it would be a bit pointless if I flew over there for the half an hour we would get together before I had to leave again."
"Oh, so it won't be this month then?" You tried to hide your disappointment, but that would be like trying to hide an elephant under a blanket.
"It will probably be the end of next month, unfortunately. Oh god, I don't think I can go that long without seeing you. It's already been a month. I'll try figure something out."
Maybe you should get some blood tests before you told Calum. If it had to be over the phone news then maybe you should be definite.
After you had finished talking you hung up the phone and called the doctors. Luckily they could fit you in for a blood test that day, however the results wouldn't be in until the end of the week. You weren't sure if you could keep this to yourself for that long.

By the day of the results Calum probably thought you hated him. All of your conversations had been brief and you had barely texted him.
You waited patiently to be called through.
"Miss [Y/L/N]? Room 5 please."

"S-so it's definite now? I'm having a baby?"
The nurse nodded at you. "T-thank you." You stammered and left quickly. Now you had to tell Calum. What would he say?

The phone rang four times before he answered. After a few minutes he sighed. "[Y/N], what's wrong? You've been off with me all week. Have I done something?" You gulped. Could you do this? Should you do this? This really wasn't over the phone news, but you would feel guilty if you waited any longer to tell him.
"Um... I... Oh Calum you're going to hate me for letting this happen. I'm so sorry. Please don't break up with me." You desperately cried. You had no idea where all these emotions were coming from.
"[Y/N] what's going on? Have you cheated on me?" He asked angrily.
"What?! No of course not. Oh God Calum," you choked through your tears.
"Thank god. What's happened, babe?" he said, in a more soothing yet equally urgent way.
"I'm pregnant." You whispered.
The line was silent for what seemed like eternity.
"Calum?"
"Pregnant?" He said in a soft, unreadable voice.
"I'm so sorry Calum I don't know how it happened. Please don't break up with me... I-I couldn't raise it alone. I'm only twenty two a-and I mean I know you are too but I need you." You rambled, and then, before he could break up with you, you hung up. It probably wasn't your smartest move, but you had convinced yourself that it was logical. You would probably regret it later, but in that second you didn't care.
You had no idea what had come over you. You had never been this clingy or desperate before, so why now? You figured it was because Calum was so important to you - you couldn't lose him over this.

The next day Calum called you nearly every hour, but you couldn't face talking to him so you ignored his calls and messages. You didn't want him to break up with you, especially not over the phone. You knew you would have to talk to him at some point, but you couldn't handle it just yet. You were scared.

A loud noise abruptly woke you up that night. You glanced over at the alarm clock - it read 2:13AM. You could hear movement in your flat and immediately panicked. You and your unborn child were going to die. Someone was in the flat. You knew you should move, but you were frozen to the spot. You held your breath as you waited for something to happen. "Fuck," you heard as something crashed to the floor. You recognised that voice. In fact, you would know that voice anywhere. The door handle swung downwards and in walked Calum. What was he doing here? You released a sigh of relief. Thank god it was him.
"Calum," you whispered. Hopefully your heartbeat would slow down soon.
"Fuck, [Y/N], I've missed you," he said, walking over to where you sat on the bed and kissing you urgently. For a couple of minutes you forgot about everything; you allowed yourself to be consumed in Calum. When he pulled back reality came crashing down on you, hitting you like a ton of bricks.
"[Y/N]... You're pregnant," he half whispered. His hands were still on your neck and his face was still dangerously close to yours, which did not improve your concentration or your increasing heart rate.
Since words seemed to be failing you, you just nodded.
"You're sure?"
You nodded again.
"I don't know why you thought I'd be mad at you. I've always wanted to be a dad."
"You're not mad at me?" You whispered.
He shook his head, "of course I'm not."
You smiled at him, finally feeling a little better about this whole thing. Calum still looked a little nervous though. "What's wr..."
"I had planned on doing this next time we saw each other, but now seems like the right time." He interrupted you.
You gave him a confused look as he pulled you to the edge of the bed.
"Doing wha..." You began, but the ability to string sentences together was one that you no longer had. Calum was knelt on one knee in front of you, holding a little black box.
He opened the box, revealing a beautiful ring and eliciting a gasp from you. You could already feel the tears building up in your eyes. Calum took your hand.
"[Y/N], will you marry me?"
Apparently you hadn't blinked for a while, because when you did the tears fell down your cheeks.
You nodded vigorously before managing to choke out 'yes, yes of course I will.'
The ring fit you perfectly and looked even better on your finger than it had in the box. You were beaming.
"Now we'll be a proper family." Calum smiled at you, pressing his lips to yours gently and carefully resting his hand on your stomach.
