You put all your heart into dancing well in front of your boyfriend, Jack. You, him, your best friend Ashton, Ashton's band mates, and a few other people had gone out for a drink in the clubs, and you hadn't got a clue how you ended up so drunk. Eventually you got tired of dancing with Jack, so you clumsily wandered over to the bar, straight to where Ashton was sitting.

"Finished grinding on your boyfriend for long enough to come say hi?" He snapped. You sighed. You were fully aware that Ashton did not like Jack, but normally he was a little less open about the subject.

"Jeez, calm down! I said hi earlier. It's not my fault you won't dance!" You retorted. He just grumbled to himself and took a swig of his drink.

After an hour of downing shots and consuming waaaaay more alcohol than you should, you moved closer to Ashton. You knew he wasn't sober, but he was far from drunk. He might be happier if he were drunk.

"I don't know why you're being like this Ash," you slurred, your words blending together, making it difficult for Ashton to decode what you were saying.

"You get jealous of Jack but I just don't get it," you continued. The filter in your head that prevented you from saying whatever was on your mind had evidently stopped working. "Like, if you were jealous because you wanted me to be your girl or whatever, then I gave you plenty of chances!" You rambled further. "I wanted you to make a move, but you never did!" At this point you weren't even sure if your words were making sense.  "So I dunno what your deal is, mister." You finished, allowing your seemingly heavy head to fall into your hands.

"W-what?" Ashton stammered.

"Where the fuck is Jack??" You said, lifting your head.

"[Y/N]?!" Ashton exclaimed, obviously wanting you to continue with your previous thoughts.

"Ash we should go home, Jack will find his own way back." You decided, standing up hastily. You would've fallen flat on your face if Ashton hadn't jumped up and grabbed your waist to steady you. You grinned at him and started to head in the direction of the door, his arm firmly around your waist. In normal circumstances you wouldn't have left Jack, but it had been hours and he hadn't found his way back to you, so he deserved to be left. Or at least that was what your intoxicated mind was telling you.

"You can stay at mine tonight, [Y/N]," Ashton told you when the taxi pulled up outside his flat. You didn't question it, you just followed him. Even in the state you were in, you knew he was going to ask you questions about what you said before.

Your theory proved correct when Ashton threw himself onto the sofa and pulled you down onto his lap.

"[Y/N], about what you said before... What did you mean?" He wondered, his arms holding you securely.

"I gave you so many chances, Ash. I wanted you to do something, kiss me or something... But you didn't, so I don't know why you hate Jack so much, you obviously never felt anything for me or you would've taken a chance," you mumbled, your eyelids drooping as you leaned on Ashton's shoulder.

"You gave me chances?"

"Mmm." You were almost asleep.

"But how come I never noticed? What chances?"

But you were fast asleep by this point. He gently shook you awake.

"Babe?"

"Mmm? Ash, how come you never like my boyfriends?" You asked sleepily.

"Because... Because you always get hurt and I have to pick up all the pieces of you that they break and I can't stand seeing you so broken. You should be with someone who would never even dream of hurting you, like..." He trailed off.
